Simple question about my car Im building

Does anyone know if my 1932 Chevy will p*** inspection with one single stock tail light?

It will have turns on both sides but kinda hidden unless they are lit.

I guess thats part of the problem.

Alot of the pics of the originals look like it only had one but most are hacked and have two odd balls.

Most dont show turns either. I have a copy of the original manual on my computer. It actually shows how to adjust the valves but it doesnt show anything about turn signals which makes me think it might have never had them.

Who's going to inspect it, the local repair garage dude? Yes, it should p***. My '31 Pontiac p***ed with only 1 tail light.

Way too early for signals. Some chevy trucks did not get them till the early 60s!

    Ya just the corner guy.

so I should be good with a single rider and no signals.

How bout a wiper. The car did have one on the drivers side but I would like to run without.

Anyone catch slack for not having one?

    I got rain ex

  9. Only one is required before a certain year, but it's not on the website.

Go to your guy and ask him before you do it, but usually they're reasonable on the old stuff if they've been around and doing stuff for long enough to have half a clue.

Go for it. 99% of the inspection guys haven't a clue about antique vehicles. Tell them whatever you want them to believe, and I bet they buy it. Same for the police if they try to h***le ya.

  16. I can buy a car with no paperwork at all from any state in the country, fill out a few forms that don't need a notary, go down with the insurance cards, reciept and forms, and put plates on it and drive it legal the same day. Even if it's a North Carolina car that the annual tax hasn't been paid on in 20 or 30 years. The state never looks at the car, either. Beat that.

In NY everybody needs a "go to guy". make sure you give him a good tip. I also throw a bone now and then such as an alignment on the wifes car.

especially with the emissions tests. Both my truck and car are due this month and its not as easy as it was to get them through.

    check engine light= no sticky

no light on your license plate= no sticky

ugly stain on your carpet--no sticky

wife not hot enough= no sticky

Pre 49 cars or OK with single rear light. As long as it has running and stop functions.

But the way folks drive today, are you sure that's all you want back there??? You say you have others that are visible when on, so won't they be on when the inspector checks the lights????

My mopar has only a center mounted stop lamp from the factory, I have wired the fender lamps to do running and stop along with the trunk stop.

This^^^^ Just did it last month ,zero paper work pre 1972,two simple forms, insurance and a photo of the vehicle serial number plate,or frame numbers....
10 buck inspection for vehicles older than 25 years.Exhaust system is not part of inspection, cracks in windshield can't be more than 11 inches into the wiper area, don't need side windows, only requirements are what the car was equipped with when new, rusty bodies welcome, who needs fenders or hoods?...If it steers, has at least the original braking equipment and lights, you are good to go.Any vehicle that can't p*** NY inspection(other than a 96 or newer with check engine light on) is a total piece of **** not fit for road.
If there's any problems it's because 10 bucks doesn't pay the the inspector's garage overhead for the 20 minutes it takes to inspect and paperwork.

NY accepts a bill of sale as the required proof or ownership from the seller? I thought they wanted either a transferrable registration, or a ***le from the other state (if that state issues ***les).

It's great if what you say works.

Don't even need a bill of sale. You fill out an affidavate whereby you state that to the best of your knowledge, no one else can claim ownership. Sign it and on your word you are the owner of record. Pre 72 vehicles did not have ***le, they had a transferrable registration reciept. Makes it easy peasy most of the time.

    dmv form 51/51s

The only hang up is that the State Police run ann auto theft task force, ad the DMV can require you submit to an inspection of the vehicle at a field office. This typically happens for ***led cars in the most likely to be chopped list but, it could happen to anyone requesting to register an pre 72 non ***led vehicle. This "service" now costs $200.00.

BOS is part of it but not accepted as the only proof.NYS does want a transferable reggie or ttle as proof from states that issue them...however....what me and RustyNYer are talking about is a loophole in the law for 72 and older non ***led vehicles in NY state. It's not a slam dunk situation, you need to know the system and act to act nicely to pull it off.And it's up to the judgement of the DMV office manager.
I always do the non ***le loophole at a rural DMV office. The clerks are less h***led by the flow of ******** lies about paperwork. As they say,a city punk tries to fool the DMV for monetary purposes or some illegal activity,a hillbilly just wants to get his car on the road.

As plym-46 mentioned, do you really want to drive on the roads with only one light visible on the back ? When I was in a car club one of the members had a 38 Ford and I guess on that model some only had one tail light. I followed him down the road one night his car was black and it became almost invisible when it was 100 feet in front of you.

It has gotten so bad on the streets I am thinking about adding a 3rd brake light up high.

With NY you must have a picture or tracing of the "vin". They issue a NON transferable registration and mail the correct reg after the vin has cleared their system.
