:D Hey you started it man...

I usually babble on but really had nothing to say for some of these! lol I do need to ask your opinion on how I go about taping the heads off to get the red/silver striped look... How do you tackle this? Polish first, tape off, then spray red? What to spray red, what not to. Any help appreciated...

The machine shop recommended it so I went with them. I actually wanted the Isky Max1 but they went with the 77B which has all the same characteristics... Isky Max 1 just sounds cooler!

    77B:
"This is the cam of choice if you are building a basic street flathead. The 77-B is a low speed and midrange power cam with a good idle. A stock carburetor can be used with this cam. Make sure you check valve to head clearance before installing heads"

    400jr
"Not for the faint of heart, and not for the street! This famous Isky 400 Jr. grind camshaft is full race, competition only and is recommended only for the experienced flathead V8 racer"

  12. Block sand the tops of the fins down smoother and smoother till you hit about 800 - 1500 grit. Clean the head surface, paint the heads.
Sand the tops of the fins again with whatever grit you left off with,
and switch up grits till you are tired of sanding fins.
I usually finish sand aluminum with 2000, then polish.
    Wipe clean,smile,post pictures!

Thank you sir! What about the sides? It seems most people leave an inch or two of shiny block showing... What's ur take on the matter? What about the sides facing the intake??

  14. Personally, I would polish the whole head.
You are wanting paint just in between the fins?
That just involves more sanding, not a big deal.

Personally I would pay someone else to do that... polishing the whole thing with so many contours is a BITCH! I don't enjoy doing that stuff, maybe you guys do. :D

I don't know...it just seems as if there are not enough pictures on this thread.

  20. Agreed!
I would if I had to, but if there is someone good
    near, I would use them.
A great example of money well spent!

Your on the right track. Interested in how you'll turn that piece of crap into something decent. So far so good. Hope it doesnt turn into a modern douchebag version of a hotrod.

Keep posting, ya frickin gangster want ta be! :)'

Lol... Care to elaborate on a "modern douchebag version of a hotrod?"
I haven't learned that term yet... Is it between trailer queen and rat rod somewhere? Or is it a sled where someone just throws cash at something because they can?

Well a sled isnt really a hotrod. But a hotrod is. The difference in style is debatable. But i dare say its were the original owner was going but with the cash. As said, i like where your going, you be the judge otherwise.
