I was looking at my buddies frontend setup comparing it to mine... shouldnt the draglink be mounted on bottom? Its mighty close to the 4 bar.. Is it ok to run like this? I looked at putting it underneath but it's not tapered on the bottom for the drag link:confused: The thread says mounted on top but i meant bottom

Its tapered on the top for the tie rod to go on top instead of bottom... Im just wondering if this is safe for him both of mine are on bottom

  3. Looks like thr steering arms are set up for a cross steer setup, if you swapped sides wouldn't the taper end up on the bottom?

That's the way stock ones were done.. You can tapper the bottom hole if you want and it will be fine.. Just be careful not to go to far on tappering bottom hole.. Aftermarket steering arms are tappered on both sides.....

I bet his spindles are square 42-48 style. Mine are that way. I bought a reamer and reamed from the bottom so now mine mount on the underside.

If he doesn't decide to reem the bottom of the hole will it be ok to run on top like this?

I would say no. That one picture with the blue floor jack in the background is scary close. A hard left hand turn with a bump on the RF and I bet it hits.

I've found that most '41 Ford passenger-side spindles have the rear-most (drag link) hole tapered from the top. Same round spindle as '37-'40. Even has the "78-" prefix. I've also noted stock '41s, still put together, with the drag link mounted on top. I still have one of the spindles in my stash that came off of a '41 front end that is worthless to me. DD

If the stock 46-48 Fords had one on top and one on the bottom than yes you can and I have run one on top and one on the bottom.. I sometimes run my drag link with the tie rod end on top of pitman arm and the other end on the bottom of the spindle just to make my drag link level with mother earth.. However I would keep the tie rod either both on top or both on bottom....

  13. cant you just flip the pitman arm over ?????

If in doubt cycle the suspension to the extreme and the steering too. Check for clearance.

In all my time messing with early fords, I have NEVER come across any 37-48 spindles, round or squareback, that were reamed from the top.
