real impressive you guys being as into this as you are at your age. i've been into cars since i was a real little guy (longer than i can remember and i'm only 30 now) but even i did'nt know as much about actually workin on cars, as you guys seem to, when i was 16. body work i could handle as i took autobody summer school classes at 15 and picked it up real fast, but mechanical stuff i did'nt pick up as quickly. not till i'd had a few years of fixin my own cars just so i could get to work. i did'nt get my license till i was a couple weeks from 17 and a few months before i was 18 i got my 63 Impala. mom cosigned the loan as my graduation present. it was a real nice car, till i took it apart :( .

anyway. i'm glad you guys are so into this crap. it is my life, my passion. some might even say i'm obsessed.

keep an eye out for Bucket~Boy's ride. i've been helpin him all i can with the build up of it. i'll let him tell you all about it. he's a better mechanic than i was at his age, thats for sure.

    keep it up guys....

Yeah, I dont know where Id be without working on cars (probably doing some weird drug) So its good in that sense that it takes all my money so all I can afford is beer. But Ill tell ya, it really gets on the nerves of girls nowadays when you talk about cars. Its a real shame. Oh, and jake, not to hijack this thread, but im not sure if I can make it to the BBQ. I have to check my work schedual. Since its an afternoon thing I can try to request closing shift, But we'll see. And I just ordered some Bellflower exhaust. Im not gonna install them till I get a flame kit.

On a side note, How did you manage to swing a 64? Those things are damn expensive!

I've got a 66 Nova and a 29 Model A Tudor Sedan. The plans for the sedan are for it to go ontop of a Deuce frame that's powered by a 348 with a 4 speed behind it. In the ass end there will be an 8" ford filled with 3.50's. The top ought to be chopped approximately 3". I'd really like to have the car look exactly as one built by a teenager in the late 50's and updated in the early 60's with some american mag wheels. I plan on painting the car green, but I haven't really seen any that look like something a teen could have afforded then.

Damn I thought I was young. Some cool projects on here guys.

    I'm 22 and have been driving my 30 5W Model A for the past 5 years .

Right now I'm working on a 52 Ford F1 that should be driving by next year.
It'll be chopped 3.5", painted dark blue, lowered, Camaro front clip (narrowed
4 inches), built Ford 9" rear end with 3.90 posi and some 285/75/15s in the
back. Going to run about 400hp/400tq. Going for a sleeper/retro look.

Don't take this as rude, but how do you guys afford to get your stuff going? I was making crappy money when I was 16-enough to pay for gas basically.:( I guess after school jobs pay more now. Also, how's the auto mechanic class situation at your highschool? My old highschool had 2 really good teachers. They didn't do anything fancy but they had a couple of fast Mustangs and Camaros come out of the garage.

Begging, Borrowing,Saving,Horse Trading, working, making friends with the older guys. No auto shop in school, but i was lucky enough to have Lou Calasibetta and Mark Conforth Living close by. I am also veeeeeery cheap, I almost never spend money on anything other than the car, and when I do I regret it for a week, its been 2 years since i've gone to the movies. I'd say "networking" is the most important tool for a young rodder, you can almost always find what you want for the price you are willing to pay if you know the right people.

I'm 17 and working on my '50 Dodge. About the money, after schoo jobs man and summer jobs. I make $8.40 per hour I work 25-30 hours a week during the summer, and 15 during school. Swap meets, farmers and ebay are my main supply of stuff. Go to cruise-ins and talk to the old timers there, listen to their stories and respect them and sometimes they'll help you out.

For me the Model A was paid for mostly by my dad. He finished it in 82 (year I was born) and then we both rebuilt it in 2000. I drive it every day, so I keep it going and pay for gas/parts.

We had shop class in high school but didn't learn much. My grandpa was an aircraft mechanic and my dad learned from him and so on.

The truck is all me though. I've been very lucky so far with what I've found. I don't have a dollar over $700 (Canadian) in it so far. I'm planning on driving it without a box for a while too. I still need a box, right front fender and running boards. I'm planning on building a show quality truck, so I'm not cutting any corners either. My big investment will be a new donor truck which will cost a couple grand but it will actually save me money in the end. The guy I'm getting for my frame welding is very good, just a little slow, but not expensive either.

If you're patient it pays off. I'm not in a big hurry to get parts so I've found some really good deals. Being young really helps too because people already assume you don't have money. Being able to say why you need a certain part and why usually results in them giving you a bit of respect. I like to be able to ask them about something about their car they have changed on it that makes it different. I think they figure older people are trying to make a buck off them too.

Currently I've just graduated and started working for the government which has allowed me the hours and the money to start working on such a project.

Well, jobs arent minimum wage anymore, so thats good. I usually work 20 hours a week during school and Ill put it onto a full time job during the summer. And autoshop has gone way down hill (at least here). All the cars we got last year ended up being either totaled or close to it. Its not that all of us were vandals, its just that when you dont have a philips head screw driver in the entire autoshop and 30 kids are sharing two flatheads (screwdrivers, not engines), ya cant do too much stuff.

I'm 15 for another month. Got a restored '31 A and building an A speedster with either a hopped up Model B or a V8 flatty. Also an '81 Honda CM400A might build a bobber, but it's for sale now 'cause I need the money more.

Well the Model A was bought by my dad and was originally gonna be his project with ifs and all that modern bs. He never does anything with it and was gonna sell it, but thanks to the HAMB I was able to talk him out of selling it.:D
Right now I don't have a job, but I'm puttin in applications everywhere I can. I just take b-day and holiday money and throw it in the bank.

Im using money I got for graduation (homeschooling and extra credits, but I wish I wouldn't have gone),once I get my license and a driver (Im finding quite a few problems with the 55 from previous owners) Im goin to start looking for a job, then Ill be able to do lots, wether I sell the 55 and build a hot rod, or if I keep the 55, and the high school I was at, had NO auto class, none whatsoever, we had the room there, built everything, roll up doors, everyday in PE I would see that room, guess what it was turned into, weight room, part of the reason I left, we had no wood or metal shop classes either, we had those rooms too, right next to my drafting class, but some idiots went in and messed the equipment up, school got rid of the class, another reason I left. After Drafting (I had one year left) they had no electives. Hope I answered your question Jeepers

  23. Im 18 and drive a '59 Ford Fairlane that I built as a late '60s Super Stock drag car with a Ford 429. Now Im working on a '28 Roadster that Im doing strickly as a ca. 1948 dry lakes rod. The body alone is made up of three different tudor sedans, one roadster and a '32 Ford. Its got a '47 Flattie with Edmunds heads, open headers and a 2x2 setup. Indian M/C hides up front and 7.00-16's out back, and I just picked up a '37 LaSalle gearbox. Next on the punchlist is a set of bomber seats;)

Getting my shit together for a T bucket project; olds motor, four speed, 9 inch, same old shit. Looking to take it to Antioch for Billetproof next year in primer and blankets.
