1952 Ford F-1 Phillips 66 logos on doors (saved from the scrapyard!)

I just bought this pickup from a local junk yard. It was used by Phillips 66, as it has remains of the logos on the doors. Flathead V-8 was stuck, but I took a chance on it. I soaked it good with Marvel Mystery Oil overnight, tapped the starter a couple times and it rolled over smooth! Has a few stuck valves...

Plan to get it running dependably, then just fix what is needed, such as gl***, seat, floors, etc... May have the Phillips 66 logos freshened up enough to be more legible.

Odometer shows 4437 miles... Wondering now if that may actually be the total miles, as it still has ford script plug wires on it!

  9. Unbelievable that somebody would think of s****ping one that solid and complete. Good job on saving it! Henrietta the '38 Ford pickup and Ozelle the '55 Ford send grateful, happy horn honks. They were both impressed when I showed them the picture of your F-1.

I am trying to reach the previous owner to see if I can learn more about the truck's history. I friend of mine bought a panel truck that was used by shell oil Co. It has very low miles too because it was used around a refinery compound...

That's the plan... And the bed wood needs replaced... Was gonna find some old planks from a barn and use those for the "already weathered" look.

OK, so I have spent some more time working on the truck. The flathead runs!
It ran rough, but no death noises from the bottom end, etc. so I decided to take the heads and intake off to check into the valves. Had a couple bent (probably from me tapping on them) and a couple burnt, but nothing too bad. Cylinders look nice and clean. No rust or gouges, etc. The plan is to fix up the valve train, replacing bad valves and installing new adjustable lifters. It should run reliably at that point, then it's on to brakes... and then a bit of the necessary stuff like gl***, floors, seat...

Here's a photo of one of the doors... It's hard too see in the pic, but the logo is legible and above is says SIXTY SIX in approximately 2" high italicized letters...

Just a quick update... I got my adjustable lifters, head gaskets and intake gasket in the mail, so it's time to lap the valves, do some clean-up and start putting the engine back together this afternoon. I am confident that it will run good enough to be a reliable driver. One of the water pumps was leaking on the first start-up, so will see how it goes. I may end up replacing them, installing new engine mounts, etc...

  28. so your gonna leave it looking like a rusted mess because of a barely legible sticker on the door?

I am going to fix what is necessary to make it a reliable driver, clean it up a little and drive it. No plans for a complete restoration. I may have the logos freshened up a bit (they are actually pretty easy to read in person)... "rusted mess"? ...gee thanks .... to each their own as they say... I have had plenty of cars that were fussy and required tons of detailing... This might look like a mess to you and that's fine, but plenty of folks think it's cool and I don't really care what people think of it anyway.. It's mine and I can do whatever I want to with it... :D
