There is a company that sells just this section new. It's a nice piece. This is a great looking car. The steering modifications are interesting.
Congrats on getting your 3w. it's hard to believe that one in that condition can still be found. Do you have any clue as to what the steering is out of. that's one heavy duty steering box and appears way over kill for the car. Frank
No idea of the steering box. Appears to be something from an early 50's car. I will likely go to a 48-52 Ford pickup steering box. Thanks for the comment!
Awesome barn find dd34coupe!!!! I do know how you feel. I found a '34-3w in a barn a few years back. It was in great shape from the patch panel line up. From there down is was missing lol. I eventually sold it but wish many times I had kept it and went the same route you are planning for yours with the flatty. Taht will be very cool indeed. Cheers! Mickm
So this friend was he interested too? If he wasn't he must be dead or was it a case of who ever had the most cash first???
Thanks for the kinds works MickM! I know about letting them go - there is a 33 3 window coupe I had in the early 90's that made its way to another owner. He did a great job on it, so everything turned out well!
It was on the island, and the previous owner had it for 38 years. He never did anything with it, but it was still very hard for him to let it go. He named a price and I did not bargain - had to pay his price to get it but it was worth the money. How is your chopped coupe coming? I have to decide whether to put my chopped coupe up for sale, running out of room in the garage with too many projects.
I'm still smiling after getting the one in my avitar 3 years ago. I know how you feel. Our cars seem to be in similar condition. These truly are once in a lifetime finds. Everyone deserves to find at least one. Kudos! I was at that swap meet too. Amazing what one can find if your ear is to the ground. Doug.
Are you nuts? That car's got no guards, and the paint don't shine no good at all!!! Look, I'll take it off your hands and I won't even charge you for me to take it! Can't get fairer than that! Now, can I? Hahaha - nice find.
Doug - I wish I had known you would be at the Victoria swap meet, would have bought you a coffee. Let me know if you are coming to this area again so we can meet up. Would be great to share stories about the coupes we own! Steve
One of your Aussie buddies has already asked it he could buy the coupe. Nope, not for sale. I want to build this one. Thanks for the comment!
The chopped coupe is a 34 Ford 3 window that I built about 20 years ago. Probably needs a refresh, so I either have to sell it or get a bigger garage for my four cars. Thanks for the comment!
Hey, it doesn't hurt to ask! All the best in your search for a coupe. If you keep at it, one will show up for sure!
ok, I'm back on this today. Going to completely disassemble the car. Will take pics and post as I go along.
Looks like a 46-48 Ford rearend with a stock 34 Ford trans. Someone welded quarter inch steel plate between the x-member and the frame rails. The idea was to hang the master cylinder off underneath the steel plate on the left side, not sure about the right side. Was not a fun job cutting that steel plate out, but it is now gone....
Here's the body on the frame with the front axle removed. The body got propped up, and out came the frame. Still the straightest 34 coupe body I have come across, and I have been on the hunt for them for 25 years now.
The bare frame and the rearend assembly. The frame is in very good condition, and will need little work to make it perfect.
That's it for now. Everything is going into storage while I work on my 53 Ford convertible. Here are some pics of my other 3 window - someday I have got to "unstreetrod" it.
Other than the painted grille, what a great looking car. Love the chop. Congratulations on the new one. Nice find. Enjoy the build.
