Hello Hambers - Just picked up my first 'old' car and thought I'd share. I've built a '20 T-bucket with my old man and am helping him with a 51 chevy sedan delivery; but this one is all mine!

It runs and drives, so I'd like to keep things small for now so I can continue to keep it drive-able. Initial plans are: shave front / rear bumpers, lower it, new wheel/tires, re-build seat.

Thanks to all of you Plymouth pioneers on here for giving me inspiration and ideas. Although I probably won't go quite as crazy as farmer12, its good to see what i could do.

Big thanks to chromedRat for working with me on the sale - Josh is a stand up guy! Our trailer had a tire go bald on the way out to get the car (7.5 hr drive), and Josh drove us around to 4 different tire shops until we found a new one. Can't say enough about him.

Stay tuned for more pics and the first few projects on this beaut!

I have a 40 Plymouth and love it. Congrats on the new car. Looks to be a good one to start with. Just curious, what would you change the wheels/tires to? I think they look great the way they are.

Congrats man, these MoPars are the slickest little coupes out there. Styling is MoPars thing and these babies are loaded with coolness. Enjoy! ~sololobo~

  4. You've got a nice old Plymouth and she looks like she's in pretty good shape! Buff her out, get her running great and drive the wheels off of it while you plan your 'look' :) Enjoy the ride, and maybe we'll see you around at some local shows! Cheers!

Nice looking ride. Of course I'm partial to the bizzy coupes. :D. If you do shave the bumpers, give me a shout, I may be interested in them. Thanks.

Monkey - looks like you are in Peoria?? When/where are some good shows? The only ones I know of are in Junction City - haven't looked real hard though haha

Bmac - I want to eventually run steelies like the current wheels, cept with spider caps! I'll prob upgrade the tires to radials with a similar white wall.

Thanks to everyone else - glad to finally 'join the club' with my own project to share. I'm 29 and feel like I was born in the wrong era - i love new engine tech but as far as car styling; they had it right back in the day!

Awesome! See, the economy being this bad isn't always a bad thing. 10 years ago, most people couldn't afford anything that nice for their first project. Thats a nice ride, I dig it!

My friend that was my 1st car, AND you have a very rare Special Deluxe coupe with the jump seats in back - correct? I had mine in '68 - '75 and dated my future wife in it - and yes played around in the back area with the seats up and out of the way. My was brushed painted black, had a on of "chip & seal" coated under it, rusted doors and trunk. Spent the whole summer of '68 scraping off the underside, and sanding the top side. We painted it a dark red metalic and she turned out beauitful. I really like the blue you have - send more pixs - and have fun.

  12. I like the wheels and tires. Would be cool with a lowered back and fender covers.

    Sweet Plymouth, congratulations.
Back in the early 70's , one of my cars was a 1941 Plymouth. I found it outside an abandoned service station somewhere in Pennsylvania. A friend and I had been out scouring old garbage dumps for parts for my Model A when I spotted the 41.
The cool part of the Plymouth were the custom touches. It ha[IMG]d french-ed headlights, 50/1 Buick tail lights, 283 Chevy engine, 3 speed Saginaw trans and a nice Black/white tuck and roll interior. All of the body seams were filled with lead. The paint was old, faded and thick.
Oh, I paid 50.00 for the pleasure of owning a cool Plymouth. Sold it a few years later when another project came along. Only one photo remains of the Plymouth, shown here, next to my 65 Olds 442.
    All the best,

Yes - has seats in the rear! I don't think its the original paint, and the pictures I posted don't show a few paint probs, but there is no rust on the fenders or body. The underside is almost pristine with a few minor trouble areas, nothing that couldn't be fixed fairly easily.

For a pre-war car that hasn't been touched for the most part, it's amazing. It still retains the flathead six with 'three on the tree' - before getting her I had grand plans to re-power w/ new trans and rear end. Once I saw it I can't bring myself to change anything!

I'll get some more pics up soon! Later.....

Take a look at all the info and then the forum at P15 D24. 41's are mechanically identical in most aspects to the 46-49 P15's so the parts vendors and other information crosses back to your P11. Nice Ride welcome to old mopar nation.

They are still using that engine in tugs and fork lifts. That engine is a tank! You can't hurt it! Mine had 5# oil pressure at idle and a rod knocking, but she wouldn't die! You got a real keeper there.

  21. Beautiful,...a lot nicer and cooler than my first car!!

  22. damn nice looking plymouth you have there i can understand shaving the bumpers but id leave the stance where it is ....if it were mine

Yeah - I jumped on this one pretty fast. I planned on waiting for about 6 months before looking hard but this one was too good to pass up!

So the first thing was to remove the pin-striping someone put on the front some time ago. Although it looks good on the drivers side without, the passenger side has some paint damage - booo!

    ds_stripe_del.JPG
Drivers side - looks pretty good

    ps_stripe_del.JPG
Passenger side - not so much....

The plymouth getting to know the mustang...haha

Anyone know what the swiches shown below may be for? The one by the choke looks original, however the other two (at the end of the dash) not so much. I will have to start tracing wires!

  26. Congrats! What a great looking car. In my opinion, the only thing it needs is lowered a little in the rear. Great looking car with perfect lines....

The switch under the choke is the dash lights, the others are a previous owners addition.

  28. My guess on the switches would be an aftermarket horn button (most of the original horn wires short out in the column). The toggle may be a kill switch? Old school anti-theft?
