How do I mount - " Flag " for Headliner

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fordstandard, Aug 3, 2012.

  1. Question; I have bare metal right now (no headliner) and want to have a flag as my headliner. What is best way to do this?

EDITED THIS POST; TO EXPLAIN; THE FLAG I WAS THINKING OF USING WAS A POW/MIA
-- to show my support. If this is disrespectful then i honor your feedback and will use another design for a headliner

    * Should i get one large piece of card board and glue flag to it, if so, then how should i mount it so as not to drop down???

    * I do have the orig headliner bows.

Anyone have pics on how they did a headliner???

If you're thinking of gluing in a US flag as a headliner, the best way is NOT to do it!

According to my list of uses of the American flag given to me by the USO, that is not allowed and may cause you some grief.
    Respect the Flag!

If it says "Keep on Truckin", then go for it, If it is a US flag, don't be a smuck.

On an original headliner there are seams or panels in the fabric where the bows run thru almost like if you were making curtains ... So put the bows in the roof tape your flag in the corners and kind of push the flag up against the roof and tape it up ... At that point mark where the bows line up ... After bows are marked on flag take flag down fold across the line where the bow would run and stitch a seam like a curtain repeat where each bow is run bows thru loops... Then use 3m spray adhesive and hit a piece of thin Upholstry foam cut to fit roof and stick it on the roof ... Let dry ...hang headliner from bows and spray a tack layer in between the bows and press flag against foam let dry ... There should be some little metal strips with teeth like things that hold fabric tight along edge of roofline and garnish moldings at windshield and rear glass hold and keep it right in front and rear ...
I just removed a factory headliner to chop the top and this is how it was done on my Plymouth

Arrgh! Our captain would shiver his timbers if we 'headlined' a Jolly Roger from the overhead!
    Avast!

  9. fag as a headliner? are you doing cabaret?

  10. Wow, this thread sure went to hell in a hurry!

NO US flag as a headliner - one of the rules of US Flag etiqutte is that it is not to be used as upholstery, clothing, or a cover. This is a guaranteed way to get your ass kicked at an event. Just sayin'...

  11. I completely disagree with this...if you use the stock metal bows slipped in a rod pocket sewn to your "flag"
you sure as hell dont want to use any glue in between the bows ..the bows are too low below the metal roof for this.

You haven't answered the question of if it is an American flag or not. If it is, you just came up with the worst idea of your life. I guarantee that some Veteran will not only explain it to you when he sees it up there, but you will be wearing his size 12 where you really don't want it.

Tell me you really aren't that dumb.

As a veteran I would have to say.........show a little fucking respect! You must have never served and had friends killed or maimed.......take a look at the guys who raised the flag at Iwo Jima.....ask one of them if it would be ok to cut up a flag, stitch it into the roof of a car!! This thread pisses me off!

An American flag anywhere other than flying proudly is not only wrong but may insight sever anger in many and who knows, maybe your car gets f'ed up. Just say'in

Probably my knee jerk reaction and I apologize if I jumped the gun. When you say "the flag" to 100 people what is the answer you are likely to get? So if it wasn't the stars and stripes...my apology.....if it was Old Glory then my posts stands.

  18. Well, you never mentioned what kind of "flag" in your post so I'm gonna give you the benefit of doubt.

IF you are going to be using oh let's say, a "rainbow" flag then I'd say "whatever floats your boat"!

HOWEVER if your plan is to use an American... no THE American Flag, then I'd say "are you fuckin' kidding me"! Somebody, perhaps someone from the military, should take you out back and "demonstrate" how to treat an American Flag. If you get my drift.

Sooo... what kind of flag were you planning on using?

WOW! I have never seen so many just jump the fucking gun! Do you guys know how many flags there are??? I worked in a flag store for a summer, we sold over 8000 different kinds of "flags", so that gives you 7999 flags other than old glory that he can use that just our shop offered!! Do you guys not realize that Dixie Delux built by Bo Huff has a flag headliner? Now I am a southern boy, my dad was a cajun, so give me one good reason why I should not be pissed that he took the flag of my heritage and just stuck it to the roof of his fucking car??? Didnt think of it that way did ya? The rebel flag means a great deal to me, my family lost a great many that fought for that flag, and it was not for slavery, if you think that is all it was for you are very ignorant, and you really need to go back to school because you know nothing about your history, do you know that the south was fighting to do away with taxes and to keep our rights to have firearms? Didnt know that did ya??? So before ya go jumping the gun and defending the stars and stripes and ignoring the way the rebel flag is treated, do a little study on the background of the flags, or hers an idea find out what his plans are before you jump his ass....man some of you can really be dicks!

  22. Sorry i did not respond quickly--The flag i was thinking of using was a POW/MIA ; to show support . If that would be disrespectful i honor your feedback and will use something else as a headliner!

  25. So I'll just address your question as if it were any other build question. If you are talking about a stock body of any American made Auto. I would contact Acme Headliners and buy a pre made ready to install headliner for the car. They come in just about any kind of fabric you want and they are cheep. I would then stretch the headliner out on the sewing table and baist the Flag in place. Then I'd sew around the perimeter as well as along each bow seam, then just install it as a unit.
    Hope this helps you out.

  26. I don't think you'd have a problem with a POW/MIA flag as a headliner. Might be pretty cool. Your original posting should have specified that, BTW! Less hostility that way.

Fordstandard was kind enough to PM me and explained what was going on...I was one of the jump the gun dickheads.....for that I apologize. His Pow Mia flag is a great idea, if it makes people think about those who gave all and we're never laid to rest on American soil then he has my support.

Take a few deep breaths, man...
The war ended 150 years ago, and your side lost. It's time to move on....
If you have a personal beef with Bo Huff, take it up with him.

There are plenty of idiots that fly the stars and bars up here in MN and it always makes me laugh. Saying it (war and the flag) didn't represent slavery....In the words of the South's finest, "That's funny rite der"- Larry the Cable Guy.
