You are a busy man, just don't loose interest in it over the long haul. I think I'm going to move the ladder bars up one hole and see how that helps the launch for the next race. I also need to figure out the air pressure and launch rpm, at 2 grand it didn't spin, at 2500 it did but picked up mph. I started out at 12 lbs and went to 11 lb. before the bog so didn't learn anything there.
i have a really nice pair of cutouts that i cut out of my j and it was nice. no rot ...they are cut high for big tires so a lot of metal for a repair . I'lll sell for 100 just sayin, swade man it will be worth it all in a very short time, enjoy.
1.712 1.613 1.706 2.291.....lol I'll say it, cause everyone is thinking it, that was a piss poor burnout in that video. It looked like I had no wheel speed but was at 4500 rpm in second, gotta work on that too. Doug (Fullfendered) thanks for the video !
Glad to see you got it back on track. Moving the front of the ladder bar up is gonna take away hook isn't it? Do you have your slicks screwed to the wheels, if so let some more air outta them. Congrats on what you've done so far it looks badass going down the track. Rocky
Thanks man, moving the front of the ladder bar up a hole should move the center of gravity back, theoretically putting less weight on the front. No screws yet, I don't think it hits the slick hard enough to worry about that.
Ideally, the lower bar of your ladder bar should be pointed at your center of gravity (balancing point). On most cars that point is right around the rear mounts of the front seat or a tad further forward. Lowering the front of your ladder bar to where the lower bar points past the C.O.G. allows more weight transfer to the rear wheels. Rasing the front of the ladder bar to where the lower bar is pointing before your C.O.G. will transfer weight to the front of the car and could unload the rear wheels. Have you had your car scaled on the 4 corners Phil? If you have, what's your weight bias? 11 lbs. pressure is good. Did you check/adjust it just before you ran?
No the car hasn't been scaled and yes to checking the air before I ran. My bottom bars are parallel and pointing way out front now
Good to see you at the track Phil, Congrats on making a successful trip to the strip! Maybe I'll get to run ya next time!
Damn yeah! Those bars are too low. Raise them up are you'll notice a traction difference. Also keep track of your pinion angle when you make adjustments to your ladder bar. As far as I see you need to move your bars you probably will have to adjust the pinion angle as well. Hey Phil is this a current picture with the new quarter?
Speaking from my understanding of physics and less from any track experience, I'd say the front of the ladder bars are way low.
I told ya I need to raise them. What my plan is to do is prop the rear up on jack stands, take off one ladder bar. Adjust rear hiems in/out to match rear bracket holes with front hiem in new upper location. That should keep rear square and pinion angle the same. No that is not the new quarter, I probably won't do the quarter swap until after the season is over. I don't want to be a slave to the car to be ready for the next race, slow and easy is good for me...lol
You bet your ass I had fun, how can ya not when your car ain't breaking for once ! It ran good on 93 octane, everything going right except the bog, but that was drivers error not the car.
Got the ladder bars moved up a hole in the front and ordered 2 size up jets and 3.5 power valves. Racing again this coming Saturday the 21st and we'll see what happens, hopefully good stuff !
Good Luck this Weekend Phil! I won't make this one either, I'll be at the Syracuse Nationals. Give Em Hell! haha
Ladder bar change didn't do much for those 60ft times, 2nd 3rd pass bog again. It seemed to hit the tire a little less harder. I went up 2 numbers in jets and down to 3.5 power valves, ET picked up so that worked ! 1.67 - 7.37 93.08mph 1.881 - 7.69 92.74mph 1.709 - 7.51 92.82mph 1.582 - 7.27 93.57mph
Look at that little squeak of the front left off the ground lol The contact of the slick looks pretty good though staging lane the new pit bike, it some how looks small ha ha
Car looks great even with the battle -scarred quarter panel. 1.5 sixty footer is good. Great to see that left front wheel off the ground. Glad your having fun (finally!) (not sure about the pit bike... )
Thanks Baron, I am having fun, now I need to get rid of that bog issue. I am doing nothing between rounds other than opening the hood to let heat out and checking air pressure, life is good.
A little more air in the rear tire might make it handle better.....on the pit bike. Glad to hear your having fun. It looks as though you could still use my 4 pound hammer though. LOL Rocky
That thing is a wheelie machine, a little to much push and it stands right up and out from under ya...lol If I could get the car to wheelie like that now.....
Went up 3 in jets to a 63 and moved the shooters up to a 37 from a 31. The shooters didn't help the bog, still bogs under 2200rpm. The jet increase slowed the car down too, the best I got was a 7.36 at 93.04 and a 1.62 60ft. Front plugs looked rich but not so much the rears, I'm going to try and just jet down the front carb and see if I can get an even plug reading. I'm leaving the shooters alone for now until I jet down but will move the ladder bar back before next race.
Sooo much more fun when you'r racing and not wrenching (at the track). Glad to hear it's not self destructing... Looks great making passes.
Thanks man, just got to get a little more air under the front tires...so it looks as good as yours...lol
Not sure down track but at idle 7.5 lbs and I have a full MSD setup (distributor,coil,6al box) 15 initial, 21 advanced all in at 2950 rpm
