Old Campers...Let's see what you got!

was going thru the local pick a part and there was a 79 big ol flat nose motor home in the back. so i stripped it clean! haha I took the fridge, stove, hood vent, heater,sink from the bath(stainless) and the inverter set up. all for 100.00 couldnt beat that.

Nice! I plan to build a teardrop and would love to find a stove/oven like that. I will keep my eyes open now for a flat nosed winnie..

Is it gas or electric?

Early 60's Teardrop Jr. overhead camper. BRAND NEW Reico Titan jacks. Jacks are not hydraulic, but the crank type. Only been put on my truck one time. I didn't like climbing up to the camper, so bought a trailer. A cordless drill is strong enough to crank them up and down and is much faster than hydraulic jacks. Entire interior is knotty pine. It looks like a cabin inside. Ice box, stove top, sink and closet. It does not have an oven. Overhead sleeps one slim person, or two kids. Dinette drops down to a full size bed. Camper is 8 ft. long (bed length). Total length including cabover is 9 1/2 ft. Jacks alone are $600. Best offer!!

I have had those in several "free" canned hams and 70's trailers I have towed home. Should be easy to find. The gas stoves/ovens are pretty robust. I seldom use the ovens because I cook outside in the summer, but the few times I have, they worked great. They would be good in the galley situation you are thinking of.

 

yep you should be able to find you one.

mine is gas, all stainless. even found a bunch of old pots, pans and grille wear in one. along with the crank out windows and screens. i sourced all my lights and cubbord hinges there too! you would be suprised at how much that little stuff adds up.

If you watch the movie carefully you will see they switched the Mercury for a Lincoln in the real tough climb over the mountain. They covered up the trim and disguised it as a Merc but it was definitely a Lincoln.

You also notice they never went over 40 or 45. Desi freaked when Lucy went over 30 ha ha.

 

Unknown trailer looks like an Alma made in Alma Michigan about 1951.

Not a camper but falls under the heading of cool memorabilia. Just got these yesterday, found on CL.

 

I've got one for ya -

First has some family history. In 1944 my uncle was diagnosed with severe asthma. Only a dry climate would help. The doctors gave my grandfather a letter explaining all so that he could get additional ration cards and make the trip from Illinois to Arizona. So - they packed up a travel trailer with all of their belongings and piled into the family car (1938 Chevy) and made the trek to Arizona. Piled in the car were my grandfather, grandmother, father, uncle, great grandmother, and great grandfather - 6 people.

The trip was VERY slow going and took 14 days. My grandfather got so frustrated he chucked his favorite char out of the trailer in the middle of Kansas. Fanally after suffering 11 blow outs in two days (only tires available were retreads) Grandpa and grandma went before a court in Texas and begged to be allowed to buy ONE new tire. The request was granted - they were issued a license to buy ONE new tire and no more blow outs occurred.

The slowest part was when they hit the mountain passes in eastern Arizona. My dad recalled that everyone would get out and walk while grandpa drove the trailer up the hills. Then everyone would pile in for the down-slope.

The picture was taken the morning they left Yorkville Ill. All 6 on the left made the trip - two on the right (grandfather's parents) stayed on the farm.

 

I'm pretty sure it's still there...

I built this one in 76, using a 71 Eldorado. I cut the car in 1/2 and using a floor jack, I backed it up and welded it in place of the trailer hitch.

The frame had to be strengthened and it rode like a Caddilac!

I used GMC motor home torsion bars and 10 ply amblance tires.
