Hi guys I need some help.
Awhile back I changed the intake manifold gasket (leaking from front).
Since then the car has been running hotter than normal. Normal was between 180 & 185 with a/c on. Now the car gets to around 195 on the gauge seems like it is starving for gas the shuts down. The distributor is in correct TDC on compression stroke.I backed flushed the motor and heater core, as fast as the water went in that's how fast it came out. I sent the radiator out to be checked it came back 98 percent flow. I replaced the water pump with a flow kooler aluminum. Replaced the thermo stat with 180 degree hi flow. Replaced the antifreeze with Preston 50 50 mix. I have cool flex metal hoses. I let the car idle today, it got to around 195 started to run rough the stalled out. Then it will not start until it cools down. While it was hot I took off air cleaner and checked to see if I was getting fuel it sprayed when I pumped the throttle.
I have an electric fan with a new thermostat control tha comes on at 185 degrees.

FYI when you try to adjust the screws on the carb there is not much of a change in the way it idles. Also there is no va*** on the right side of the side of carb.
Please help. Thank you in advance. Vic32

Sounds like carb issues. Maybe try a rebuild?

I dont know what carb you have, but if its a Holey, you have a blown Power valve. Thats why no change when adjusting mix screws.

As far as the Hotter running? Did you use the right gaskets?

Does your car have the duraspark box? if so, notoriously when they get hot, the engine runs rough, then dies till it cools. If you have one, when it runs rought pour cold water on the box, if it straightens out, thats your culprit. Or else maybe you stretched a dist wire, or connection in a plug isnt right after you R&R

You sound like you're having different problems than me, but my 302 was shutting off, and I thought it was a blown MSD box. After a lot of wiring work, I found that it was a broken wire going into my electronic distributor. Tweak the wire going into it right at the base of the distributor, and it would start up. Just a thought.

You mentioned than the timing was set @ TDC??? Try setting it @ 10 degrees before TDC... It'll run like a champ!... ;)

If everything was working be for you changed gaskets ???????????
sounds like gaskets. Is the waterpump the right rotation for your motor?
go back compair your new gaskets to the old. do one thing at a time if no change put old part back then do next step.

Are you running a mechanical fuel pump? It sounds like a textbook case of vapor lock to me.

My thoughts exactly but I havenet heard to many cases of fairly modern motors getting vapor lock.

Hey guys, I changed the coil and still have same problem. This time I checked for spark,I got plenty of the car started with the spark tester in line while the car was still hot. Any opinions on the module inside the distrubutor causing this problem. It is a Mallory. Puzzled ????

Looking at the basics here, get back to the root of the problem.
Same intake? Yes- how old is it? No? did you check it for port alignment?
How long was it apart? (I ask because we have seen gas turn into light green crystals in under a week, and the bottom of your carb is literally a bucket with holes in the bottom.)

Yes same manifold apart a couple of days. Car has be driven since. No problem running until it gets to 195 if it doesn't get that hot there is no problem it runs fine.
