I am impressed greag score. The SBC is great. Honestly for me I prefer being able to stop at any parts store for parts. Nothing sucks worse than being stranded because you cant get a starter or simething because it would take a week to get it.

This was my '49. For 13 years, it was my daily transportation, wasn't afraid to drive it anywhere. Had to sell it in '91 for family obligations. Still had a flathead and 6 volts and would start even on the coldest days. Still miss it, but, it did go to a good home. It now leads a garaged and pampered life on a small farm.

  6. Way to go. Nice start . I hate to see the flatty go, :( then a SBF,,,,,:(,,,,,,finally a sbc. Yuck !! Guess what, it's your trk, you do what you want, that's the name of the game. I own a '47 Ford sedan w/SBC and I have thought about switching to a SBF, I didn't think too long though........too much work that isn't necessary. I have a '48 coupe & that has the flatty.....:)
Good luck & keep the pics coming..........:)

  11. Nice find!! I think the SBC is a great choice. If you're going to drive it when it's done that is.

There was a 66 Mustang with a new Vette motor at one of the local car shows last month. All the guys in the know were totally bagging on it and saying how wrong it is to do that, then driving away inna toyofrigginta.
Farggem I say. Build it for under $1500 and leave em to complain while chewin dust.

You could scrap that thing for more than $300, good deal! Great job on that frame repair welding too! If you are gona replace that flat head, please put it for sale on here so someone can give it a good home. Plus, low budget build = selling anything that isn't bolted down!

a friend of mine is now the owner of the flathead. he wanted it more than me. now he gets to trip over it everyday. some people out there are giving me crap over the motor choice. i have always been a ford guy. this is the first time i am doing a chevy swap. maybe it will be the last time. who knows? its one of those things i have always wanted to do.

Dave, I got crap for a SBC in my Dodge as well. Everyone wants to talk about what you SHOULD be doing, you know what's best for your build, F them. You're doing some great work here, you're going to have a great truck when it's all said and done.

I LOVE a SBC! I am also lovin' my new inline 8 flat-head (I would love it even more if the bitch would have ran this week!)You will soon love Chevys too (unless you wind up missing being under the hood all the time, in which case, Ford is the ticket!) 48CI more to play with than a 5.0 Mustang! Ya know....IF I knew anything about building say a 568ft-lbs of Torque (Torque is best for moving REAL steel down the road) SBC I might recommend that you find a cheap crankshaft out of a 400CI SBC (They ARE around, just look) bore your SBC 0.060 over, get some quality pistons that will get you right around a 10.6/1 compression ratio, port and polish the heads and intake yourself (Hit me up first for details on that one if you have never done it) balance rods and pistons yourself, (again, hit me up if needed) put a high 400's low 500's lift cam in that biotch, (COMP Cams will CUSTOM GRIND on a "Small base circle" cam blank, which you need on a stroker to avoid possible clearance issues, FOR NO EXTRA CHARGE any cam specs you can think up, they don't "advertise that they will do it for free, but they do), and have a 388 Stroker, that will have you burning rubber past any Ford that you USED to THINK was fast. But what the hell do I know, I can't even get a fucking Packard to start.....Steve from NC
