I'm cryin' in my beer, missing you guys. Wish I could of made it this year, but the cards just didn't fall in my favor. Thanx Bob K for all the pics, keep 'em coming. I met you on the salt one year, and you're a real Hot Rod Gentleman.

It ain't 11:00 yet but I'll post some more anyway, later in this post you will see why I am back at the motel posting pictures.

Neat wheel & tire combo on this roadster.

I passed these guys on I 80 on the way our here yesterday, they are from Ontario. Really neat old Dodge, I don't know if it's a 60 or 61 or whatever but it has WW and is cool as hell with a mild lowering.

This is the reason I am back at the motel. The wind blew and the shit flew. There were canopy tops and traffic cones and coolers and all kinds of other junk skating accross the salt. This what only one inch of water looks like out there, the reflection is amazing.

Maybe some more from the Nugget Parking lot later.

Well, there are some wet areas on the entrance road and the racers return road and the long course is not running but they are running 2 courses and the rookie course. Will dry up some more tonight I hope, we shall see what tomorrow brings.

BBC is here in force, interviewed me this morning, will prolly end up on the cutting room floor. They had this cute little hellicopter thing hovering above the crowd at the drivers meeting. It's a german made thing with a couple of cameras. I couldn't get a pic of it in the air but got this after they brought it down.

They had this snack wagon set up at the starting line. The name comes from the plane that dropped the Atomic bomb on Japan that ended WWII. the connection is that the airfield in Wendover was the top secret training base for the planes that dropped the bombs on Japan. Ya gotta remember that in 1945 Wendover was very isolated.

This is the motor in the car that Flat Top Bob is going to drive this week, and of course is our Hero Bob Owens. The motor is a highly modified 302 Jimmky built by the CANDY MAN in Ontario Canada.

This is the model a motor in the car that I hope to be driving either tomorrow or Sunday.

Hope to be sitting here all suitted up in the next day or two.

    That's all for now.
Oh no, more news, the Nugget Casino which hosted the nightly car show has eliminated abut 50% of the parking where we held the show. Don't know what is going to happen but prolly find another hotel which shows more hospitality.

i have a unit like it... somewhere

  21. Wow, that sucks. The owner used to welcome the cars. He even had waitresses out there taking drink orders! I wonder if there's a new owner? Here's what it looked like when I was out there in 2009.

They made more room Sat night and were helping park more cars. Hospitality ramped up from Friday night. Maybe they think it is only a one night car show! That one security guard that directs traffic gets pretty animated.

Yeah Miles, I noticed that when I drove through on Sunday night after the Inliners party. Hopefully that was just for one night. I didn't go back up there on Monday, was packing up for an early morning departure for Joplin.

  24. I missed Miles?!

The word was the Fire Marshall made them cut back on parking due to safety reasons.

    Final report from the Salt

This is the Jack Safro streamliner from Wisconsin.

Owner of the Hop Up racer Mitch Allen on the line prior to his 111 mph run on a 123 record.
The car is running good, needs a minor tune up in order to assault the record.
Sad to say for me though the week is over and I will not get a chance to drive this year. There is always next year as all dissapointed racers say.

Traveled with Gerry from Phoenix in his 50 Chevy PU to Joplin and he had his little adventure on the way. This is about 30 miles north of KC on I 29. The moral of this story is, HAVE A WORKING GAS GUAGE.

I am in Joplin as we speak and getting things ready at the Holiday Inn.

  27. He stole my grille! Actually I sent the grill and charcoal with him in case he needed to use it at the drags.

  28. Thanks for the road reports and pics, Bob. Glad the car is running good.

Doesn't look like the Plymouth will be done in time for this weekend's
    doings in Joplin.....
son in law in K C is repairing tornado damage, plus some rust repair, and
other stuff like a new top.
