That's sweet...something about it makes me feel warm inside...lol. Seriosly though, reminds me of being a kid in my grandfathers transmission shop back in the 70's.

Once again, thanks for showing all of the photo of the real race cars that were there.

The sunrise photos were great and I borrowed one of the Bob K photos for my desktop for a while. I need that for a kick in the butt to get one of my projects going.

  8. It is a SAAB, but it is NOT a Sonett - It is either a 92 or a 93 model from the 1950's. (Pretty sure it's a 56-59 93)

    Hi Doug

Great pics of the salt and your misc stuff, been there 4 times in the 60's and the meets were pretty low key compared to now days.

I would sure like to get 2 pics of Wendover one from 65' and now to see the difference, sure has grown as back then there was nothing west of the old Stateline casino.

I'am new to this forum can you tell me some about your ' Goldchainer's CC ', and can i get some contact info on you?

    Thanks , Don

well, I do love the challenge of trying to capture an event.
Car shows aren't a challenge to shoot. Everything is all lined up for you waiting for you to take a photo.
This place really taxes your wits when it comes to photography, so that's what makes it so enjoyable.
Plus, this time I took much more time getting to a from the salt, thus being able to see the landscape, towns and sites....much more satisfying ....

  21. Doug, did you get any pics of the C-118 that is at the Wendover Airport? It is the very same airplane they used in the movie "ConAir". Went and poked around inside that right before we left Speed Week in 2010. Just one more cool thing about the area! Wendover was a WWII training base, and many of those hangers and other structures still stand and are in use, for the most part.

Very cool pics! I love the Ely yard and engine house.

  22. Thanks for taking us for the ride, Doug. You're traveling at the right speed. Hope to see you soon.

  23. Once again Doug your eye is amazing...............Thanx from those of us who are still using a Brownie

You're correct, It's a SAAB 93, 92 had two cylinder engines. Awesome little car which use to sound good when "weight adjusted", mean little screamer.

    Don,
This is not exactly what you wanted. It does get you close, maybe?

Sure looks like a Sonett II to me and the SAAB boys tend to agree.

The one you have quoted is the "Flying Pickle" running in H/BGC and is not the car we were talking about.

Yes, I've been to the base three times and spent many hours there...
I witnessed the last above ground atomic bomb explosion performed by the United States when I was 11 years old. It had a profound effect on me, especially since the "Cuban Missile Crisis" took place three months later.

this was the explosion I saw....and this photo was taken 700 miles away from where the bomb was detonated......

    this was the "event":

  30. the picture showed the head sitting in the back of the 93 car, so that is what my comments were based on. Obviously the one you showed is indeed a Sonett.

    confusion due to the pictures
