Theres so much 100% period correct stuff that gets a thumbs down from the bulk of HAMBers. Cycle fenders, channelled cars, welded doors, '32 grill shells on '33/'34s, bobbed or banana fenders, cut-down door tops, hidden hinges, full wheelcovers on and on. Its all based on modern perceptions of how cars were built.

Most of these guys werent there back in the day, and dont seem to have any interest in looking at old magazines, they look at what is being built on the HAMB NOW as the way a period car should look, and mentioning doing anything differently from the "black highboy on '32 rails with 16" solids or wires and guides" immediately gets the thumbs down. Start a thread on cycle fenders and watch how long it takes for some mouth-breathing doofus to tell you "real hot rods dont have fenders". Then grab some late fifties Hot Rods or R&C's, and actually start counting the number of fenderless street driven rods vs the ones with cycle fenders.

Then we wonder why the modern "traditional" scene is starting to get pretty stale. Its still REALLY unusual to see new build in the late fifties/early sixties style, because doing that style automatically violates "the rules", and most guys, for all thier "build it your way" bullshit, are lemmings. They are not about to do something during the buld process that their "buddies" are going to question, because they do not want to be seen as "uncool".

The funny thing is, the same guys that will bitch like crazy if you talk about doing any of this stuff during the build process, will ooh and ah and gush all over the finished product if you just go ahead and do it. Take a look at the "welded doors" thread that slimegreen started. EVERYBODY was telling him "dont do it" "street rod stuff" yada, yada, yada, but when I posted photos of the Anderegg car, and jimmyB posted pics of that wicked channeled '50s A roadster, no-one said anything about those cars being ugly. Break free from the lowing herd, forget the HAMB, let the little books and period photos be your guide.

    Never forget the HAMB! :D

I think its just that people seem to be confusing "traditional" with "common" sometimes.

The less common Hot Rods and Customs from back in the early days were no less "Traditional" than the Deuces and Model A's.
Personally, I think we should be exploring the unusual and less common builds from the period instead of just sweeping them under the rug and refusing to admit they even existed.

I know...people will bring up the FACT that some of the less common builds were absolute monstrosities and as ugly as sin.
    True.

Butttt....I've seen pics of Deuces and A's that were pretty homely in their own right!
No marque or style is immune to poor planning or a nasty eye for style and proportion.

Fact is, being a little oddball doesn't automaticly make a car ugly!

Case in point...this little Deuce coupe...errr Coupester! :D:cool:

  7. Flat Power Care to explain more?

I'll give you two more facts. It was a very long time ago and what I had in my shop was a cut off top 3-window, white paint underneath the blue. Way too many years ago and the guy I did the work for died in the late '90's. In the '60's, he was stationed in Pensacola in the US Navy.

P.S. Hopefully your dad's car is still out there. Never lose hope.

Was it just a body when you got your hands on it?

  9. He bought the car intact, but brought me two different bodies. I only had the bodies. Good luck with your search.

Hopfully you find the person who owns the car today. This story is cool reminds me of my Dads car. It took me 8 years to finally buy my fathers car. I was lucky it was unmolested other than someone sealing the car with a 1/4 inch of filler.

Hey Randy, Have you spoken to Tom to see if he actually had involvement with the car and who he may have passed it to ? I believe he is still active in the hobby. Bob
