I bought this 60 Impala for parts a few weeks ago and thought for the fun of it I would try to make it run before taking it apart. It had been sitting and non running for the last 5 years. I put some plug wires on it, poured gas in the carb and hooked up a battery and holy **** it ran. Since then I pulled the carb and cleaned it up and after getting tired of putting of pouring gas in the float bowl I pulled the fuel pump and cleaned it up and got it working but ran out of daylight so hopefully tomorrow I'll have it running all on it's own. Here's the victim Complete car with all it's trim and sheet metal and the cool little 283. The frame and floors are good which is what I'm after. and here it is running http://static.photobucket.com/playe...raidmagic/photobucket-10251-1344729187275.mp4
Sounds about right. Something that you could care less about and start up for gits and shiggles has no problems. Something you just poured $5.0000 grand into doesn't even want to turn over!
Congrats on the runner. That's always a bonus. I've ended up with a few good engines that were left for dead. My current F1 hadn't been started in 29 years. I was gonna pull the engine and throw in a SBC but it ran good enough to leave. Actually I bought a pair of F1's and the other one ran too. I sold the 2nd truck not running and unchecked other than the oil looked good, it turned over by hand and had compression. The guy that bought it had it running the next day and has been driving it around town for the last couple months. Helped a friend get a 472 Caddy started that had been sitting 15 years with 15 year old gas. Ran smooth, idled like it should. Oil change and some paint, it's ready to go.
So after rigging up a fuel tank and bolting down the battery I had to put another brake drum on the right rear and put 3 quarts of trans fluid in it and drove that ****er around the yard. I'm impressed and thrilled the drive train works that will help me recoup the cost of the parts car.
Don't think it didn't cross my mind but it's a 4 door and I have a 2 door that I am restoring. Plus this has lots of rust on the window channels so that keeps me at bay.
