Squawblow- what have you used to remove the raised lettering on the tires? And how long do you wait between coats?

    Thanks,
    Scott

Since you're on a budget and you like the ripple discs, consider a set of '56 Oldsmobile hubcaps. They're 15" and have a very similar design, they're period correct and decent sets can be had on eBay way cheaper than the Moon ripple discs.

I use a worn flap disc on a 4 1/2" electric grinder to knock the letters down and then an 80 grit sandpaper on a DA to smooth everything out. Helps to practice on an old junk tire, if you get to aggressive you'll groove the tire and then you can't fix it. But once you get the hang of it it's pretty easy.

I did this set out in the 90 degree summer heat and by the time I had a coat on the fourth tire I was ready for another on the first tire, kept doing that for 5 coats. They should be dry to the touch before you put a second coat on so you don't smear the coat undernath, but I wouldn't wait days or anything between coats, on a cooler day you might give it an hour.

  5. yup, i seen those before. you can scoop up a pair for about $120 easy on da ebay if you look hard enough. you can get them for much cheaper with the exception of buying one at a time, but that's a bad idea.:D

but like i said before if you go to a swap meet you could get a set for about $35-$100. and the guy that's selling them will probably have thousands of other hubcaps to look at, so you might change your mind. it's all up to you.

  6. in fact, i have a set of beauty rings and caps i might consider selling, they make a great look when primered black on www

    just sayin'

dude this is so weird i was just came across an add for some..guess what? olds hubcaps!!
no lie! guy wants $20 for a set! crazy! these aren't exactly what you're looking for but they do resemble the old flipper discs we all remember... well.. i dont really "remember" them.

any way check this guy out

Great car great project. I really like the projects that involve parents and kids. Thanks for posting to my project topic. I like the idea of putting your build thread in your signature line. I think I will steel that idea and do the same thing

Thank you Jeff ! I love those Comets! :D

  10. i got my chrome steelies and firestone wide whites from summit. they price matched the tires from jegs and they were 1150 mounted balanced and shipped. i have 4 inch blocks in the rear and the aerostar springs in the front with half a coil cut out.

  11. this is really nice, but not having the drip rails for some reason is bugging me. i love everything else about it.

I enjoy photoshopping in cases like this, its kind of a learning process :D

A great car you've got there, Jason, must be fun!

  15. Hell as for hubcaps I sccored 4 54 dodge caps for 20 bucks yesterday, for another 25 bucks I can put bullets on them and be different from anyone else for less than 50 bucks. The white walls are something that are needed, keep hitting swaps, or CL for some.

    My old 53.

Using just dog dishes and beauty rims with fat whites (wheels painted black for contrast), can look nice with a good stance. beauty rims are cheap.

Second picture is before I lowered it. photoshop :)

They are great cars. If mine was a two door like yours I'd probably still have it. Best of luck.
