Someone said this car went 270 with a four banger. Is that true?

The Marainis are Northern/Central California nut farmers, well more than that. Look in your Costco and such for thier nuts and dried fruit. Great bunch of guys that are also Rod Riders. Thier operation is trulley top drawer![IMG]

  3. Yeah, LilT (our 5 year old) has eaten enough of their dried fruit to put fuel in the tanks of all their racecars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Great pictures!!
    Thanks

Thanks for taking the time to shoot and post Mr. Davidson! Last time I was out there I too stayed for the whole week. The crowds thin out by Tuesday and it's less carnival and more racing.:)

That's what I heard. I'll go earlier next year; photographers relish the opportunities that carnivals provide.

  8. Great pix! Good to see what happens after I leave. I got home on Wed. and still had two days of cleaning. lol

    Thanks for sharing.

  9. If you read the speeds for this car on Sun. you will see that they had one run slower than the others. My truck #416 was mis-read as 46, the 140 mph run is actually mine. Too bad the mistake wasn't made the other way round, I wouldn't mind being listed with a 190+ run. :p:D

I think he actually went around 287 or something like that on his qualifying run. On the record run it kicked out the rods, but his average was still good enough for the record. I saw both runs.

The car is owned and driven by Greg Rice from Keller, TX. I did most of the lettering/numbers on it after someone else started it and didn't finish. It runs one bank (4 cylinders) of a late model fuel hemi (TFX, I think), with I believe a 14-71 blower. Prety hefty load of nitro also.

When it's going down the course on a run, it's really hard to tell it's a 4 cylinder...it really thunders.

Congrats to Greg on his red hat!

Hats off to ya' Tom!!----Great pix!
Last time I drove my roadster on the flats was 1976 with Scritch as spectators.
They had a bicycle that went 150. behind a blown Chev. pushing wind for him!
I agree about the salt packing in strange places!

As pretty as they are the pictures of the Mariani Farms cars dont do them justice. All the little details on them will blow you away in person. The new maroon {?} roadster is off the charts. That one stretches the old rule book to the max, probably the most aero street roadster ever built, a work of art at least to me.

Did Bobby Panella's shop build the cars too, or just the engines? I didn't know they were into anything longer than 1/4 mile. And I wouldn't be surprised if Panella trucks haul the sponsor's goods to market, too. Gary

Unbelievable photos. It is amazing how nearly every salt flat photo has something in the background that in any other photo would be distracting, or a detract, but in these cases they look just so right.

    Amazing

I arrived there on Wednesday as well. Your pics are amazing! Do you know the owner of the gold and black 917 roadster? I believe he was running a 2300 pinto motor....ran about 120 mph.

    1. put car on lift as high as possible
    2. get under said car with a pressure washer
    3. wash bottom of said car for about 1-2 hours in every place you can shove the wand (sounds fun, eh?)
    4. get everything put away and take a good shower

ask me how I know this stuff.

Wow, Mariani's roadster is so loaded with right on detail....the grille insert, the fasteners, the radius rods, bezels, the crazy headlight lenses, the finishes, the rear fenders (for a cl***?), everything is just right!

The robotech wheel covers...not feeling them, but man, what a homerun!

Thanks for the wonderful, artsy pics and taking the time to post 'em.
