Is no one making 26-7 t roadster steel trunk reproductions? It seems like a fairly simple body But after searching the net I'm not coming up with much more than a few small patch panels. Anyone know of a sorce

In your avatar you claim to do custom metal fab, why not build it yourself?

That's probably what he's gonna do. Sounds like he's just checking to see what the compe***ion might be like, out there! I've seen pics of his work. Totally doable for him. There's a couple of threads on here where guys have made their own. I'm planning to do the same.

    Mac's sells 'em. $400..........not!

  5. A small turd?????:D

  6. G'day Robert, Turtle decks as a whole unit aren't reproduced but Howell's Sheetmetal Co do offer most of the parts needed, the top Tulip panel, decklid, beaver panel and patch panels for the 1/4s Howell's on Ebay They don't make the complete 1/4 panels which is what most people are chasing.

That is sort of the plan(can't let the cat fully out of the bag), I want one to make a buck off of, I have been looking for a bit for a usable original but have been coming up empty, Thought if I could just buy a repop I could make it work.
Just suprizes me with all the a's 32's, 40's along with camaro's tri five chevy's and what not being fully repoped that a simple but popular T roadster hasn't been made, Seems like it would be the first one due to simplicity.

This is just one of the reasons my '27 Tub is a tub! (I have a couple of roadsters, too...but no turtle deck.
Had a nice body, perfect turtledeck...it was stolen in the '80s..

26-27 deck lids are not all that hard to build unless you want the inside to look original. If you do you could always buy from Howell's. Howell also makes the original keyhole for the deck lids. Since they don't have much crown in them they can be formed simply by shrinking the edges of the outer skin. Here's a few pictures of how I made mine. In the original deck lid the keyhole is not centered. I centered mine so it would be symmetrical with the louvers.

Oddly enough, I got an A in senior English, the only A I ever got in a "hard" subject.

My first thought is that a turdle is a stinky milestone you must p***.

Ron Covell has a new video out where he builds a buck for making a 27 turtledeck and body. His website doesn't really have a good description of the video, but I know that he would appreciate it if you bought it directly from him. He or his Wife packs it up and sends it themselves.

    Ron's website: covell.biz

Website where you can see the description of the video: http://www.trick-tools.com/Building_a_Roadster_Body_DVD_by_Ron_Covell_1000_28_4339#.UDUNNaOt2nB

I am not affiliated with either of the companies. I just have the DVD and thought it was pretty darn good.

Turdles are most often seen in a ship's wake, sprinting away from the stern in an area just below the poop deck. They aren't that hard to make. Gary

    You guys are killing me!

You know I saw his article in street rodder showing how he made the buck, I do plan on buying the video, While I have a plan of attack in mind, I like seeing how other people go about things.

I am watching this too. I found a 26-27 roadster with no deck, free if I want to get it.

  22. Make the frame the correct wheelbase, and build a roadster pickup so you won't have to wait on a turtle deck. You can change it later.

    Wow,

I was thinking it was a soup recipe.

Also, isn't what is said after too many beers? "Are you
    a turdle?"

    Sorry, too much coffee

If there had been one made I sure would have bought one. When we built our 27 race car we had to buy old parts and repair them. Bought 15 different rear quarters and welded the parts togeather to get 2 good ones. It was a labor of love.--TV

    That looks like a coupe:confused:

  27. i lucked out when i got mine it had a turtle deck with it...well...the 1/4 panels anyhow....we used a howels piece for the panel below the deck lid and got it fabbed up.
the hardest part i had getting was the panel above the deck lid. howells sels a new skin, but the frame is near impossible to recreate because of the angles and curves in it.
the deck lid, i made using square tubing for a frame, and just welded some sheet metal on it
