i wanna hand built and entire 32 ford roadster ch***is tp [ut my flat head in and start a build. . where can i find blue prints or even a cad drawing on this ch***is..?? thanks guys
Wescotts' catalog has some pretty detailed drawings and dimensions of stock frames in the back pages. Check it out, it may be enough to get you started.
The Wescott one is available online. DDD's is going to cost you but is worth it...huge print with fantastic detail.
Here is a tech thread with details on the construction of deuce rails. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=671187
That thread genuinely desrves the adjective AWESOME. I could do that if I had three more lifetimes to learn stuff...really one of the best posts ever on the HAMB. If using that tech to duplicate look of an original deuce frame, the lower side of the reveal needs more roll to it...as is it is like an aftermarket frame in appearance down there.
i work at a place where i program parts for a 10x20 cnc plasma table. that thread was AMAZING! i can make these rails in nooooo time at all..
i got his patter printed out and it looks great. i can draw it in autcad and make it work good. but my question is, when he was laying the rails on there side and making them slope to the diffrent heighs, what are the measurements for that lay out. so when i make mine, they are correct.
Thanks HRP & Bruce L.----Yep, my FOMOCO blueprints have been sent WORLDWIDE! Wescotts do not show all measurements----But MINE DO!
GOT it to work, Wescotts are scale drawings, on his site there are PDF's of the drawings. so i just comverted the pdf to a dfx, imported it to cad... boom!! instant drawings which means instant plasma cut parts and just feb em up.. i double checked all the lay out and dimenstions and scales. it was perfect.. spot on
American Stamping Corporation, the people that make ASC 32 and 33/34 frame rails sell a detailed frame print that is about 3' wide if I recollect properly. $20 plus postage. http://ascrails.com/1932_prices.html
If you can make these rails in no time at all, I'm sure we would all like to see pictures of the process and final result.
I figured I'd chime in here since I'm the cheap skate that did the 32 frame thread mentioned above. You don't mention what body you are planning to use. If you are planning on a 32 body, the frame will need to fairly precise epically if you don't have a body yet to refer to. In this case you'll need the top profile from the wescott print. You'll also need a flat developed view of the side which will be a little longer than the print shows from the side. My frame build was for a Model A body and I made my own top profile with the body placed on the garage floor and traced onto plywood as shown in the thread. I wasn't concerned with the extra length in the flat developed view because I wanted to bob the front frame horns anyway. I also kept close to the Model A wheel base so I could put a 32 hood top on it without extending it. This project was never intended to be an exact copy of a 32 frame. Trying to make a perfect duplicate then pinch it at the cowl, then kick up the rear and then re-contour the rails, then shorten the wheelbase...all to fit a Model A wouldn't make a lot of sense. Here's a pic of where it is now getting ready for paint.
well, i want a 5 window body or a roadster. either or.. my problem is i cannot find anything to work with.. i dont care if it totaly not savable. i would replace it later on. i have inquired about several bodys for sale with out traveling cross country and no one seems to respond.. ugh!... anyways. i want to build mine like you have yours... im not trying to make it 100 percent correct. ill make my small changes that i like. i do have the wescott top view and his side view prints and i have them in auto cad and ready to burn on the cnc plasma... so. im gonna go ahead and make rails. i left excess material on the rear so i can trim to fit.. i hava a great running 36 falthead with the t-5 conversion trans. i ahve 2 original 36 ford rears and several 9 inch rears cut down.. any ideas or suggestions or leads to a body would be so much appreciated. i work for a fabrication manufacturing company, i run the cnc department. i can build anything. so i jsut need the right direction
simply google PDF to DFX converter... they have many downloadable programs, and it works like a charm let me say that
one more comment: i did set up my blue brint plotter today that i can print a full scale drawing of the frame rails on a continuous piece of paper and the lines are very crisp and clear.. maybe something guys want in the future..
