A shame those photos weren't posted earlier, it does not look like deliberate keying or wilful damage......

But still, if someone lost a tent or a tool they should own up...

wasnt there 2 tan canopies near the car in one of the pics posted earlier (post 50)?

certainly looks to be damage from something, not a key..

After all the folks witch hunting....

Let's just say I've been in the risk mitigation/criminal investigation business for a long time and have been holding my tongue cause I wanted to see pictures....

I'm 99% sure that's accidental.....and due to the fact that I was in phx during the freak storm at the Russo and Steele auction all the damage that you saw was THE same or similar.

Still doesn't make it right that the responsible party did not own it ...but it's hardly hate towards caddy's....

yup, pictures indicate flying tent.......still sucks of someone not to say something.. Just curious, how would you and your dad handle it if the person fessed up and told you face to face sorry and it was and an accident? I mean what would be the proper thing to do? Pay for the damage? Pay your deductible or part of it? What is the best way to handle stuff like this? Have the promoter of the event pay for it? One thing right off I think is to tie down your tent, but that another matter.

  6. May be canopy damage .. My freshly finished 36 Plymouth roadster took a beating after a dumb s.o.b. thought she could take one down in 30 mph winds, p.s. she had 0 insurrance was an illegal immigrant, and my car had $4200 damage .....Take a wild quess who paid the deductible.......If you picked me so did my insurance company..Some people are just to stupid for there own good......She stood there like nothing happened continued to pack up and I was standing 20 ft away ...When we had the police on the scene she had 2 drivers licenses with different names and address..This was a great experience..My car was in the shop for 2 months I lost most of the summer enjoying the roadster..Sorry I dont have any pictures to include ..I was so pissed I deleted them!!

This has been a fascinating study of how we tree dwellers see things...and how sometimes we come up with stupid conclusions... glad some of you are not poised over the trigger of a tomahawk missle... Kudos to all that kept their gray matter in gear and posted their sympathy without jumping to conclusions. As for the haters out there, grow up... everything is not as it seems and sometimes S*** happens....sorry about the damage and hopefully someone will figure out that their tent may have done it but truthfully, that is what insurance is for...

  8. Glad to see an intellectual feels free to speak out to the rest of us knuckle draggers!!....LOL

This is obviously a bummer to say the very least.

However, having seen a LOT of key damage and vandalism in my years, this does not look intentional. It looks like random impact damage. If this was a person, they're the first impressionist vandal... It's way too sporadic. Someone's tent or whatever went headlong into the caddy. Someone most likely saw this happen and walked away. That is the real crime. They were too chicken shit to take responsibility for their stuff.
An argument could be made that by not fessing up to the accidental damage and walking away, that it makes it just as bad as intentional vandalism, because in both cases damage is done and someone tries to get away with something.
The pictures are anything but convincing of willful damage.

Now I see the pics it is pretty obvious something has been either dragged or blown over the top of it.

Who the hell reaches over and vandalizes across the roof of a car, especially with funny shaped scraps and scores???

  11. Ya know, it's possible that a canopy was unattended and blew into the car and ended up away from the car where it wouldn't have been obvious that the car was hit. Also, people's attention was probably on the drag racing action.

Shit does happen, someone's property damaged that car, it wasnt the hand of God, and someone did NOT take responsibility for it.. If your neighbors tree fell on your house, or hot rod, would you be cool with him saying: "eh, shit happens, that's what you have insurance for.."

If I did that i would be sick about it and offering to help/pay in any way i could. sorry if i'm a "hater" when people dont take responsibility for there actions. There was negligence here, for sure.

  13. I can't say for sure...but yeah....looked like one of those two.

When I saw it blew over I think I made the comment, "Whoops, looks like their easy-up blew over." I didn't think that it may have actually hit a car or something.

  14. I was thinking the same thing. And those are not key scrapes on that Caddy!

  15. A spastic chimp on meth. ;)

No matter what the cause it will be good to see how this one plays out. Maybe we'll get lucky and the person or persons most directly responsable will step up without being outed by someone else. That is good for everyone's conscience.

After seeing the photos, I would concur. Intentional or not, this damage did not come from a hand held object.

OK, we have pics of all the vehicles, tents and RVs in the area. It's time for everyone that was in this area to step forward and make a statement as to what they saw, or didn't see.

As I have said from my original post, someone damaged the car and they walked away. I give two shits less what guys have concluded. I also stated, watch out for each others stuff, not everyone has good intentions. I would say however the damage has been decided by the masses occured, someone walking away from damaging whatever, does not have intentions on doing the right thing. As I have posted on here as well, I don't care if it were intentional or not (although I do think it was intentional), that is BESIDE THE POINT. Someone WALKED AWAY...period. I'm not debating how it happend with anyone, understand? I went to the drags with my dad, a guy who saw this track being built and even raced on it, and we ended up with a fucked up Cadillac. Not a soul around. You can brush it off however you want. Rationalize however you want. A gutless turd is out there.

A bad thing happened that shouldn`t have, I`ll agree with you on that. But don`t let little bumps in the road ruin your dad`s memory of the dragstrip. Cherish the time there and the time spent with your dad and try not to focus on the bad things that happen. Hell, If I was there with my dad , we`d be havin to much fun to worry about scratches in a vehicle that can be fixed.

I do think it was intentional. You need to read. Whether it was or not is beside the point as I have posted several times. Someone walked away, we have no responsible party...period. I'm not debating you.

I agree with you. That was a great trip and it did not ruin it, just a damper at the end. My dad is a good man and I was disappointed that happend to his car. It will be fixed, and I'll let it go.

Btw....I love those cars. One of just a few new GM cars that are really cool.

  25. After seeing those photos I have to agree that it wasn't vandalism. Chicken shit to walk away and/or not leave a note, but not vandalism.

And your Dad has style, that is one beautiful automobile.
I hope to have his sense of style yet at 70!!

Don't go getting your panties in a wad now, you posted this thread and felt someone keyed your car, now you are pissed because people are offering opinions as to what they think happened.

If you would have posted those pictures originally it would have helped, because after seeing them it is pretty damn obvious something besides keying took place. Some of those marks are gouges and dents. It really looks like some event happened, like an EZ UP blowing over or falling over on the car, and the person who owned it may not have even been around at the time to see it happen.

But the facts of life are, every time you take a car out you risk having it damaged. I find new scrapes and scratches on my daily driver Caddy every time I wash it. Doors in parking lots, bumpers hitting my bumpers when someone is parking, shopping carts that blow into the side, etc.

So look, we are on your side here, but you have insurance which will pay all or most of it, and you will have a pretty Cadillac again. If someone knew their equipment caused this damage and didn't seek you out to tell you, yes, that is very low of them. But I think with as many people as there were in all those pictures, someone would have had to be a complete idiot to stand there and go ghetto on your car, risking being seen.

Could have easily happened and no one knew it damaged the caddy til you guys were leaving.

The drags are going on and everybody's got their attention on the rocket powered whatever going down the track at the same time the wind sails the tent on the caddy, then it tumbles a few hundred feet passed. After the rocketmobile is done, "oh look, the tent is out in the pasture. lets go fetch it" They never get close enough to the caddy to see the damage.

By the way I wasn't there......

  28. Chev,
We have gone from chain dragging the bum to it is not a bum at all. No one is slighting you or the damage to the car, it is damaged and needs to be repaired.

Please try to not loose site of the original intent of the thread, pretty nobel thing to offer up a reward where no one is required to do so. Hell not just the track owner and the HAMB but a couple of other fellas are also willing to dig into their Chinos as well.

My panties are definitely not in a bunch. I really do appreciate all the kind words from the hambers here and know you are car guys on my side. I know things happen and as I have stated, we think its intentional, but its beside the point. We had damage to a car and no one responsible. If someone would have walked up and said "sorry, I did this" we would have been cordial and exchanged information, no one would have heard a word about this on the board from me. I do have to disagree about complete idiots doing things in broad daylight...yes there are. The news has them every night...morons that do complete idiotic things in broad daylight. And night time. No hard feelings about anyone on here at all. I have not blamed any one hamber or insinuated any hamber did this (first post). It was a warning to watch your stuff, each others stuff and to try to possibly get information about the person reponsible.
