hey thanks.. i really appreciate it.. good to see other driveway builders out there.. i know its not going to be perfect.. but knowing it was done by me is worth so much more in my opinion.. so what if your neighbors hate you.. at least you're the coolest guy on the block! Your coupe is bad ass... hope you do a thread as well..would love to see that in the works.. thanks again buddy.

so months ago i bought an old pair of "original" skirts off the HAMB.. once i got them.. they needed more work than i thought.. so i decided to just buy a new repop pair... well when i went to put the new ones on.. i noticed my gaps were a lot larger around the edge, and the skirt didn't really flow well.... not only that.. the new pair needed body work too! so just for fun I put the old "original" ones back on my car.. wow.. what a difference.. gaps were tight AND I noticed they had more of a crown to them, and actually rolled and flowed better with the quarter panel.... here's a pic of the "originals" you can see the curve they have...

heres the brand new ones.. look how flat they are..

so needless to say.. im doing the body work on the OLD ones!

As for those skirts...hard to believe the difference in the profile between the re-pops and the old originals.

I prefer no skirts unless u add a lip to the bottom of them. You know like that little flared lip that people add to the bottom of them. I don't remember the proper name for it, but anyways you know what I mean. Lol

I was just going through the same dilemma myself yesterday..especially because of the crappy fit on the passenger side..
But I think I gotta run the skirts anyway ad rework both of them over the winter..

looks great! yeah.. i cut off all the mounting hardware.. then fitted them flush at the top.. drilled out..then welded two locating pins using welding rod on the top of the skirt.... then did the same at the bottom corners.. lined them up, drilled holes.. then actually used a tool that presses in a threaded hole.. so all i do is throw a small bolt on each side.. made them fit better than using the original hardware..

  18. Skirts, fer sure. Just put a little lip, flare or something to jazz the bottom up instead of looking like they were chopped off short. Looks bitchin , bud

yeah i was thinking something like that.. but the more i looked at ones with the lip.. the more i didn't like it.. at least for mine.. doesn't match the quarter to the left and right of the skirt.. the quarter is straight with no lip.. Ive been building mine as a mild custom.. with very little body mods (except for the chop!!) i didn't french my tail lights , head lights or peak my hood.. kept my 2 piece windshield, kept my hood strip molding, rockers, stock grill, stock tail lights, etc... so i think the skirts will go well with the mixture of stock and custom.. if anything, i might extend them later on.. were painting tomorrow night.. so I'm running them as is for now.. i have some major cruising to catch up on :)

Another skirts vote! Can't wait too see your ride painted! I'm another that don't really care for the flared out lip. I like how the body all tucks towards the bottom. I think extending it would be nice though..both vertically and horizontally. Those 52's have them nice long fenders, so I think it looks right.
Wish I was painting my ride right now...i still got lots to do before I'm even close to paint..

Skirts! As is... they look great, don't see a need to change them later on. Just paint the damn thing!

Now that I think about it I would just extend them you made a good point about matching the side. I am having the same problem with my shoebox. I think I might end up making them to fit inside the wheel openings and flush. Good luck with the paint I'm jealous you are so far ahead of me.

Go with the skirts. They really tie the room together.
