Found this. Not sure if this was the wreck your talking about but La Place was a division IV track. Maybe partsrivet was there that day since it was his picture that brought this question up.

Nope, I never saw the funny car. I only saw and photographed the sports car. By the way, is that body on the M/SP car a Devin?

I really like this car. It also reminds me of those personal saunas you climb into for a 'steam'. There's a Little Rascals episode where Alfalfa gets locked in.

Toby, as you know the jpeg is identified as Alt Speed Sop....
    No clue....

  16. Yeah. I posted it from a file that I have labeled "Atlanta Speed Shop". The original image is from their archives. However, they can't remember who it is.

In 1970 they (Atlanta Speed Shop) bought a rail from Ivo, but it doesn't look like that one...

  18. Yeah ... I have a few photos of that one. As for the photo in question, I've tried running the image through Photoshop in an effort to read the name on the side, but to no avail.

It looks uncomfortably similar to the last photo of Pete Robinson's car

I believe Don Dixon drove the Atlanta Speed shop AA/FD back then. Some time in the early 70's he had a real bad crash in it at Miami Hollywood dragway in Florida. I haven't see him for a long time now, or I would ask him. JC

  22. Thanks to HAMBer mhilton for identifying the photo of the Starrliner AA/FD owned by Alan Starr and driven by Jim Hundley.

Quoted from the North Carolina Drag Racing Hall of Fame:
"Alan Starr local Top Fuel campaigner who made the "Starrliner" name famous in the '60's and '70's, was inducted in the Hall of Fame. Starr was another early pioneer in the world of fuel drag racing. Starting with the Sling Shot Dragster and moving up thru the ranks of contenders in the '70's with the now rear engine Top Fuel Dragster. The "Starrliner" team won on the IHRA and NHRA curcuit before retiring in the early '80's. Starr was tragically killed while working in his shop on the alcohol funny car of Larry McBride."

This is the Mystery Willys that sat outside in New Hampshire for 20 years and is now sitting in our garage in the middle of a resto.

  28. Denny, I can't help you, but you might also post in the Iowa Dragstrip thread to see if you can get any information from those folk.

Hey guys, I've been trying to upload views to Photobucket and am having a terrible time of it. It took 3 days and a bunch of tries to get the following uploaded. I see where they were undergoing some changes. Anybody know what's going on? All my other systems are fine; I've rebooted, etc etc.

    Take care,

    Chuck
