The field is by the racetrack and has been used as a parking lot. The field is full of cars and a few scattered horse and carriages. Behind the track are the grandstands, a large wood framed structure filled with people. The stands' benches slope down towards the track, and the roof is supported with wooden poles. There is are also a gazebo and tower structure used to get a better view of the finish line. To the left of the track are some more wood framed buildings and some tents. In the foreground is a wooden fence that borders the make shift parking lot. All image rights reserved to Henry Sheldon Museum, www.henrysheldonmuseum.org.</DD></DL>

Looks like Photobucket is fixed now, so here we go.

Tonight's batch of images is brought to you by Bayer Aspirin:

This 1923 Buick sat outside a gas station in Effingham, IL for years until the mid-70s - we passed it every summer on our way down to Paducah. Hope it was rescued.

On my way to work back in 1980 I spotted a '36 Ford Tudor in a scrapyard - mangy but savable. The next day, I brought my camera only to find this:

    Rats.

My dad was the ad manager for Pettibone years ago and would sometimes bring home a photo of the equipment in action:

I found this '58 Edsel Bermuda behind a gas station by the Paducah airport in (IIRC) 1972:

Also behind the station was a derelict Henry J former drag car, dark blue with radiused rear wheel wells, but I haven't found that photo yet.

    More to come...
