Sorry if this is off topic, but this is something I felt I had to post, all of us old farts will understand why. I grew up with pictures of this guy on my wall. Sad day for everyone in this country . Neil you rode the baddest fastest hot rod ever created by man and you will be missed. You were a true American Hero

I'm not one to keep a lot of momentos, but I have kept a picture of myself shaking hands with Neil Armstrong at Beale AFB in about 1989. One of my buddies just happened to snap the shot. I think I'll keep that. R.I.P.

Neil Armstrong - rest in peace.

I was a huge fan of the NASA / Apollo / Man on the moon thing back in the 60's when I was young and impressionable.

Neil Armstrong, Buzz and the other astronauts were heroes like no other.

    A sad day for humanity.

They stripped Lance Armstrong of his titles, not Neil Armstrong, they are two totally different people, but they are both awesome heroes.

Mr. Armstrong may you rest in peace and thank you.
No way if you were a kid in the 70s did you not look up to this group of people and what they were able to do. My parents were one of the millions of people watching that day. Thank you for your courage along with your crew for what you accomplished.

    Sad day indeed.

  16. I've had the privilege of working as a sub for NASA for the last 8 years. Our hallways are adorned with Apollo stuff and I never get sick of the stories from those days. God speed, Neil.

Rip man who walked on the moon. Hopefully there will be more people walking on more planets one day.

  18. My Grampa worked on the Apollo missions, and I was 12 when we landed on the Moon.
I actually took a picture of the TV set during the landing.

Do you still have the picture? I'd love to see it. Somewhere I have some movies I made of the rocket he was on blasting off. I was working in Washington back then & two of my buddies & I drove down to see it. RIP, Neil.

  20. RIP.
Even half a world away, here in New Zealand, we feel your pain.
He was a hero to many here as well.

whoever mixed up Lance Armstrong with Neil, Lance might have been fast but he would have had a terrible time keeping up with Neil's ride. :D 160 million horsepower is quite a ride, approximate conversion

I remember laying on our living room floor; my parents had just bought our first color tv - an awesome console model - and watching his walk on the Moon. Incredible. A true American hero!!

  25. As a 9 year boy I stood on the beach in Cocoa Beach, Florida and watched Apollo 11, 12,13 take off into history. I was mesmorized about space. Still am. I find it totally facinating. He had a good run and will go down in history as the first man to walk on the moon. RIP Commander Armstrong! Mission is complete. Over and out Houston!

No empty skys for these young eyes
    Their destiny is laid,
    In star swept space
    As nations race
    Where only clouds have played.
    The satellite
    shall be their kite,
    The universe their home,
    The contrail is their signature
    Across each sky they roam.
    As long, as long
    As screams the song
Of these our sons on high-
    That long-that long
    We know the song
    Of freedom will not die.
    (Betty McNabb, 1956)

    Godspeed, Neil Armstrong....
