I have a 32 two door sedan that was rolled. The top was completely whacked. I cut the top off at the top of the body line so that i could remove all the damaged sheet metal. The rest of the body is surprisingly good.
I have been looking for some pictures of sedans made into tubs, but most of what I find are Phaetons. Does anyone have a picture of a duece sedan with the top cut off?

I have since obtained a '32 original frame, a running 35 flathead and 3 speed ******, 34 banjo rear axle, complete tube front end, no radius rods, 4 KH wires, '32 pedals, '32 lever action shocks, F-100 steering gear, and various other hardware. I essentially have a full running car that is dis***embled in my shop. My plan is to make a early style hot rod bucket, then later add a phaeton style roof, so I can take it on longer drives.

There have been a couple nice ones built over the years, but nothing I have any pictures of. I remember one that Fat Jack built back in about '77 or so that was full fendered in particular, and then there was one from Kamloomps, B.C. that was an orange hiboy and featured in American Rodder in '92 or '93 or so. Ironically, I was hanging out at local rodder legend Don Marks' place one after noon this spring and a coulple of guys from B.C. came over. In conversation I found out the dad was the builder of the orange car and still owns it! He was a bit shocked I remembered it. It might be down in our neck of the woods this winter as they have a winter place here these days.

Keep me posted if that happens. Also, since we live in the same area, I am looking for a torque tube and drive shaft if you run across any, for my 34 rear axle. I can mod any to fit.

I like this black one but with the built in windshield posts like the cabriolet.

    Well...do it :)

I have a cut off 32 5w turned into a fake cabriolet with roll up windows, and making a new upper 1/3rd of the windshield posts/header went pretty easy.

The real cabriolet posts look a bit canted outwards in real life, up close. But the redo on closed car posts, they just look better IMO

I looked at the pictures on your album. I like how you managed the body lines where they used to curve up into the door window frames. I need to do the same thing for the doors and the rear windows. Is yours body gl*** or steel?

Steel. But they cut the body beltline almost in half. I had to use door pieces from a 31 Dodge rear sedan doors to make what you see there.

I was looking for long pieces from a 32 2dr sedan quarter, but could not get any good ones.

Lot of work to do the roll up windows to fit the homemade top and windshield posts, but our climate dictates closed cars for some of the year.

I don't think it's possible to make roll up windows for 32 2dr back seat quarter windows, as I'd bet the wheel tub is in the way. I am guessing the 2dr sedan gl*** does not roll down all the way from factory.

I've been trying to think of what I'd create if that was mine, ever since you started the thread. I just can't come up with a style that would be "hot rod".

Streetrod crowd would be easier to please with a phantom body like a 2dr conv sedan, etc.

I have the car in my avatar which is a 32 Nash 2dr conv sedan, but a very non hot rod style of body; almost European/German. Pic of a similar one below

You may want to search here for the "coachbuilt 1932 Ford" thread on hamb. There may be an idea there.

Also google image search for 31/32 chevy 2dr convertible sedan, as well as 32 DeSoto 2 dr convertible sedan

Not too bad, just needs a bit more cowl/windshield work to get it there. A Duvall, even a repro shouldn't stand up like that.

Yeah, I am not a big fan of the Duvall windshield, but the rest of the car has the look I like.

Is this the Canadian car you were talking about? http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=81206

  17. If you end up cutting the tops of the doors off I would be intrested in the door tops.

Door tops are coming off. Do you have doors with no tops, or roadster doors? One of the tops ws bent down in the middle when it was rolled, but looks to be repairable.

Find another one that is rotten at the bottom and take the top and graft it on. I think the tubs don't have the same or value

I'm not on Ford Barn so I can't access pictures, but from the description no.
The one I'm thinking of is fenderless and has a blown flathead. It's bright orange with a tan fold down top.

That would be nice except that a 32 ford body that is rotten at the bottom is nearly the same price as a good one. As of right now I have about $400 in this project that I have spent collecting parts. It is fun to have a deuce, but I don't think they are worth what they are priced at. If I take an essentially free wrecked body and make a car out of it that is a good deal. I also don't really sell cars, so I don't care what their value is too much, except for insurance reasons. If I can get this done in the next year or two I will drive it for a few years and then my boy can drive it when he turns 16. It will be a good project to teach him how to work on cars, how to weld, paint, etc. It will also be a fairly unique car, and there is something to be said for that.

  23. I've seen a lot of "A" sedans done this way, and they look good. There's a black 32 running around LA. It's been posted on here when it was at the Fathers day show. If the top of the doors and 1/4 are done right it will look good.

I'll make it a point to dig up that article in the next few days and scan it for you. I just haven't had time to lately.

  25. x2 I had a half decent 33/34 tudor body with the top cut off and literally couldn't give it away.

That is why I was looking for some pictures, to see how the body lines, which turn upward around the window in the back, as well as the mid body lines around the door, were handled. I have a clear picture in my mind of what I think would be the right way to manage both, but would like to see one done before I commit. There is also the absence of the lines in the back of the body. I have been trying to figure that out as well.
I have a torque tube on the way as we speak from 345winder, another HAMBer. Once I get the rear axle connected I will put the body back on the frame and get it as true and square as I can and start toying with the body lines.

My torque tube arrived from 345winder (Thanks). Looks like it will work perfectly, will need to cut it down about 10 inches. It came with the diveshaft, speedo gears, etc. I need to get a new rubber donut to remount the original ball mount on the back of the transmission.

  28. 2 different cars. John Renkema built the flattie powered one. Rick Davis was one of the main owner builders of the second one with the Duvall/Pastech windshield. I will try and dig up some pics of both. They are both quality cars. Larry Zilinsky is the present owner of the Duvall widshield one and it is presently for sale. Pat
