I was looking a few threads this morning and the thought hit me, I bet there are more "G***ers" now than there ever were in the time that spawned them. Thoughts?

  2. Define "g***er" then you can decide if there are more now than ever.

I do know this that there are more '69 Z-28 Camaros than GM ever built. :D

As mentioned quite frequently, the term "G***er" gets thrown around here alot. I think more cars are termed g***ers then in the past.

  4. Good point.

I do know this that there are more 32 fords than Ford ever built.

  6. With so many folks from all walks of life jumping on the g***er band wagon there has to be more.

IMHO, it's the current fad and like every other fad it will p*** and be left to the ********.

    B.T.W.: Very good poll!

allot in the past are gone, some are being recreated, some duplicated, new ones are being built daily?

I personally dont care for the "g***er" term for my 57' I say its a hot rod...but thats me!

"its a good way to have a fun project-tall fast and badd***!"

at least its showing interest in something kool instead of cookie cutter ****?or worse...

  8. If you include all gas cl***es in NHRA and AHRA back in the 50's, 60's and 70's, then, by far, there were more then that now. I remember at Green Valley, they would be lined up as far as you could see when the gas cl***es were calledto the staging lanes

It sure seems that way, but I'm not so sure. I think worldwide Ford production numbers for 1932 were close to 400,000.

im not sure how this is to be taken . is it a bad thing to build a g***er ? is it not ? ive been doing this "hot rod" thing since i was 15 (37 years now) and i thought it was hobby , not defined by others opinions - but rather by the builder/owners p***ion and ability . i dont give a good **** if someone doesnt like the rambler "g***er" my brother and i are buiding in memory of his son and my nephew who p***ed away about 1 year ago , as long as he and i are happy with the results . so yes , this will be an addition to the non 1960's built g***ers that are out there , and those that look down theyre noses at us , well..... enough said ....got that off my chest . build on young men and women , this "hobby" needs to be around for many years to come , dont be put in a box , but build what you truly have p***ion for .

calling your car a "hot rod " will get some all bent out of shape...being that it was built after 48 or what ever the year is now...
some get all bent out of shape about this 'g***er style",,,because you were'nt there, or your car wasnt a real g***er race car back in the day or what ever...funny thing is they ***** about what is wrong with you car .yet even built by the standards of g***ermadness and the rule books from that era..your still wrong ...so dont sweet it..build it ..enjoy it....

    Good poll.....

Funny thing, after we had put on a car show yesterday I came home and the wife came out to the shop (she worked the registration at the show) and we were discussing the show and had one RR show up, was very well built and ran great, a pretty nice car, just made to look rough (great welds, safe, etc.) .....we don't see too many up here, and I would not term it a RR.

As we were talking, I made the comment that the first SOB that comes up to me after I get the truck on the road and calls it a ratrod is going to get a nose job.....I ain't building no ****in rat-rod...... I would have not used the parts I am, and built the way it is, to as close to old g***ermadness specs and still be safe and reliable on the street....
g***ers = the new ratrod.....or new pro-street? Don't think so......pretty narrow minded thinking if you ask me.

All that most people know about cars is that they run on gasoline.
I believe that the term 'rat rod' is an easy way for them to say,
"I don't really know anything about these cars, but I sure know the term."

It's the automotive equivalent of 'double-down' and 'pro-active'...
Catch phrases that everyone else gets tired of quickly.

Forgive them; for they know not what they speak.

i'm collecting everything i need to build a o/t 69 rambler, straight axle, big block olds with 8" to 12" motor set back, but it is not a g***er, in will be a hot rod/street car, i guess, don't much care for a cl***, just fun.

And more 57 Chevy fuelies than Chevy ever built. What's your point?

Fact is- many here don't know what a true g***er really is (was).
I raced them, I know. Many "g***ers" here are more street freak than g***er. Not that's there's anything wrong with that but call it what it is.

every wrecked or stolen vette or big block chevelle gave up it's engine and 4speed to a tri five chevy not to mention all the other coupes and sedans that were running other brands---lots of todays g***ers would have been in other cl***es in the old days---so what ---- aren't we in this for fun ---throw away those old nhra rule books and relax---walley parks and the nhra ****ed just as bad back in the day---don't let the ghosts screw up your enjoyment of YOUR car and hobby---not many staight axle cars at mokan but lots of g***ers in the 60's---might have been called something else by the AHRA but it was the same cars that are now called g***ers

Well, do you think the term "G***er" is overused in the general public? I would guess to say that maybe 25% of the population knows or cares what a G***er is or is even close to. Maybe we are just tired of seeing it on here so it seems overused?

So what? This is all about preserving the past- one I actually participated in (racing A/GS). It's not about bending the rules to fit what you want.
    Wally Parks ****ed?
    What a clueless statement.
You are here to have fun- I'm here to preserve the past as best I can.

I would say probably 1-2% of the car guy population actually knows what a g***er is. The other 98-99% of the car guy population use it for any jacked up hunk of happy horse**** they see. Or anything with fenderwell headers for that matter. I have seen Jr stockers refered to as "g***ers", just utterly ridiculous. Using the word "g***er" is rapidly becoming the automotive equivelant of saying you hump your first cousin. Theres a good ****ogy for you...

  28. Holy ****!

I can see this thread going bye-bye in a hurry!

Oh well.... so much for having fun with a car! Maybe that's what's wrong with my area.
