I need side trim for 49 ford,these guy have the best price,been buying from Shoebox and Dennis Carpenter,not sure if quality is the same.Please advise.
I bought a lot of interior parts and rubber pieces for my '54 from them the quality and prices were real good and USA made.
I don't really consider any old car parts as obsolete. I've got a pretty solid source for all the cars I did own and own right now. anybody ever heard of http://www.jcwhitney.com ? if not, then you could do yourselves a favor and check it out. you might just find what you need here
Obsolete is the source for almost all the Ford and Chevy stainless side trim on the market. You really don't think that all the dealers around make all their own stuff, do you?
The vary same place. They changed the name. Just down the road from me. I have bought parts there in the past for my 56 F100.

Baxter, you're either pulling our legs, or you are in fact as "new guy" as I've seen in a long time. But if you're for real, just lay low and read EVERY page of the search - you'll catch up quick. Good luck.
Dennis Carpenter has noce reproduction stuff in most cases (do not buy the side body molding clips which do not work) and you can gat DC stuff through Shoeboxford.com. As for trim, Chris at SHoeboxford has the biggest collection of new old stock trim for '49 - '51 Fords that I have seen anywhere. If you buy trim from him, it will be ready to go on your car without any additional work. Dent free, polished to a high luster and pacakged very securely for shipping. Best of all, when you deal with Shoeboxford you get the best knowledge source available for what works or not on repro parts and how to put something back together that has been laying in your shop for several years. I walked in one day and started describing an ****ual clamp and he took me over ot a car that he had jacked up and showed me exactly where it went and what items it secured.
Search here for "Obsolete Ford parts in OK" Dearborn probably encouraged them to change their name. Their ****ty reputation under the old name, made that an easy decision.
X2. Once order part they had in stock to be shipped next day air, It took two days just to get out of their building, then it went NDA.
Ford Motors Company's legal people sent Obsolete Auto a cease and desist letter some years ago and made them stop using the Ford name. It is the same company and still offers the same type and quality of service (you be the judge). I live about 12 miles from them and only buy from them when I can't find what I need anywhere else or if it is a last minute item on a Saturday morning and I am finishing up a project. Last time I was in the Ford parts area, the counter guy's greeting consisted of "what do you want", no welcome to our business, how are you to day, can I help you... just "what do you want". He didn't even thank me for purchasing the items I needed.
X2 on Obsolete Auto...who, BTW, sells GMC/Chevy truck bits, too. Since they are just down the road from me, I do not have to deal with mail-order hell with them. I use them if I have to. Shoebox Ford is literally down the street from me. Chris is great to deal with. If I ever end up with the '51 coupe I want soooooooo bad, he's getting my Shoebox business, for certain. Again, personal service without the need for mail order!
These types of threads never cease to amaze me. Everyone has a different perspective of all the vendors. There is little consistancy on any of them? I wonder why that is?
That place in OK City is the WORST there is! You WILL regret dealing with them. The ONLY way to buy their junk is to hold it in your hand and decide if you are willing to accept their inferior parts. Do NOT mail order anything from them!
I am real close as well and could probably count the number of parts I have bought from them on one hand...I remember going in there once to buy a part and left madder than I have ever left a parts place after the guy told me I had no choice but to buy the part there. It was a door and the quality was TERRIBLE. I stopped at a salvage yard on the way home and bought an original part that was nicer than the re-pop and 1/10th the cost...
Me too! Its way too long a story but I had a balance from a mail order and they KEPT it! Another time, I went into their store and asked for a 35 Ford speedo cable and their pimple face kid came out with something I have never seen before and I know most Fords older than 1962. I told him that was not the right cable and he insisted it was because "it came out of the 35 Ford bin" !!
Greetings! Have to add my experiences with both "Mac's" and "Obsolete". One time I ordered a set of '40 Ford truck hinge pins from "Mac's", unfortunately when they arrived one of the pins was mangled beyond recognition, I gave "Mac's" a call and they said they would exchange the part but I had to pay the shipping both ways, the cost of shipping for that one part easily exceeding the cost of a full set of hinge pins. Another time I called "Obsolete" wanting stake pockets for same truck. I asked them to physically check to make sure the parts were on hand so I wouldn't waste my time going down there and of course by the time I walked in the door those parts had magically disappeared. We all need to keep in mind these places battle overseas suppliers who promise but don't deliver, struggle with obnoxious, overbearing customers, and have trouble finding good counter help.
I'm really sorry. I thought that he meant obsolete as in outdated or sourced-out parts. I didn't really know that it was like a brand of some sort. Will do more reading before commenting next time. Sorry guys.
Obsolete Ford / Chevrolet is not my best experience in shopping. Used them twice, haven't been back. Sold my 49' Ford Club Coupe to Shoebox, good people. Now wish i could find some good Quarter trim for my 53' Chevrolet Club Coupe.
