For years I've been lusting after a 1957 Buick Hardtop wagon, And finally the stars aligned and I scored one in good shape. I recently got it running and the brakes working, however the Hydramatic has issues...... I also got lucky and scored and rebuilt engine and trans for $500....CRAZY HUH! So hoping to get the trans installed and on the road before fall. Anyone else love these as much as I do, or and I the only crazy one?

Well done! I have a 56 estate wagon.. Love the wagons! There is a 57 hardtop wagon sitting not too far away from my house, I keep meaning to get over there and ask about it..

Awesome luck, but I think you need a Dynaflow trans for these Buicks. But you've got a good replacement engine and trans for cheap, so it's gotta be a Dynaflow. Very cool wagon, good luck!

Lots of character. Now all it needs is a Jag suspension ;)

That's funny, but truthfully doing it all over again, I wouldn't. I just didn't want to spend $1200 on ball joints.

ST400/SP400 will go onto the stock 364 :D:D:D

Yeah your totally right the ****** is a Dynaflow....I also have a 57 olds and mixed up the names in my post. I've read on here and heard all bad things about the Dynaflow ******s....so I'll be moving towards a open driveline and all the suspension gymnastics that go along with that at some point. Also I have heard that a 62 Buick rearend has the same spline axels but is open driveline so I'll keep my eyes open for one of those along with a ST400/SP400. Just already antsy to get it on the open road! The engine sounds great and already has dual exhaust.

Just to be fair, I've had some good experiences with Dynaflows, just not a performance transmission.

  18. Without a shadow of a doubt, the '57 Buick H/T wagons were/are the coolest!

That car is very real, and very bad ***. Built by Oz Welch for Zombie at Traditional Rod and Kulture magazine. One of my favorite builds ever.

I would love to find the top and rear 1/4s and gate from one of those. Keep your eyes out for one in the west. Too bad Chevy didn't build one, but it could be done.

Luv them old Buicks. 57 was the best-looking of that era...the chrome was pretty thick.
Have you got some pics of the inside & dash?

Mercury also had a 4-dr hdtp wagon for 57.

I have a soft spot in my hear for the 1957 Buick Caballero Wagon. It's just a great looking wagon. Congratulations!

  30. If you look closely (and know what you're looking at) you can see that the front doors are the length of a 4dr door, the rear doors are filled in. These were always 4 door cars that appeared to be 2 door.
