Haven't heard from ya lately! Looks like everythings climbing on your shoulders at once. If I can help let me know!!!
Chris, I appreciate it!! I'm no different than any of us....just swamped with paying the bills and the kiddos!! I am working away though to try to make this happen. I've run into a couple of snags today though and will see how fast I can fix them!!! More to come.......
man this car is really cool! I like the whippet radiator too! I didn't know what it was, but you see those a lot on old photos of T's, and modifieds especially! cool!
Thanks!!! I need to get my ass in gear and get going on it again. I've got some new goodies in the works and the Whippet radiator at the shop getting repaired and modified some. You're right in that you saw a lot of those back in the pre-war days. The guys liked them because they are tapered and a bit smaller than an A shell and radiator. I've always like the look of them with the T roadster body. Thanks again!!!
Ok...I'm finally getting around to post up the latest developments for the Dust Bowl. Our very own, Bill Carlson a.k.a BCCHOPIT has been hard at work fabbing up an intake and exhaust for this project. The idea for this car has always been to stay with a pre-war, depression era type roadster that would have been built by a young guy with limited funds and basic tools. All straight pieces and a log style manifold is what I had in mind. When Bill and I started discussing ideas for the intake and exhaust that would have that feel, he came up with this...... In my opinion, Bill NAILED IT!!!! He kept telling me that he wanted it to look like something that a kid in the late 30's put together out back in his shed. Personally, I think it's almost too sexy for the Dust Bowl!! I'm stoked to say the least and can't wait to fab up the throttle linkage and get my 94 on it!! More to come soon....just wait til you see the custom exhaust that he's fabbing up for it!! THANKS BCCHOPIT, I can't thank you enough!!!!!
if you think it's too sexy, i know of another car very similar to yours that might enjoy getting sexed up a bit... looks awesome! Bill does great work.
HAHAHAHAHA!!! Like putting panyhose on a pig but I've been dreaming of this intake for a long time!!! BCCHOPIT is my new BFF!! I see he sent you and the Silver City and nice, care package too!! Also, you sure have the inside track to getting some good help to show up and pitch in!! I can't even get Jay to come over for an hour and wire up some lights for me!! I even offered him all the Mt. Olive pickels that he could eat and all the beer he could drink!!! I don't get these engineer types!!!
I've never had a day like that before. It was so cool, and productive. Gotta give the ol' girls a reason to get dressed up. That intake is gonna look so cool on there. Not much done on SCS in the last couple days. I've been stripping my wife's new Rambler to bare metal. We need to have it in paint before her vacation ends and she has to go back to work on Monday. Keep pluggin'. You'll get there.
Jay, thanks for the offer! Your poking finally won over and I got off my ass this weekend and "lit 'er up"!!!!
LET THERE BE LIGHT!!!!! I dug into my lighting this weekend and now the "Dust Bowl" can see and be seen! I had to do some "fixing" to the original, A, light switch but after some repairs and soldering, I got it to work and work right! Also, these old headlights needed new plugs and sockets so I wired up new, 3 prong plugs and was able to modify what was left of the old, connectors to work with the new wiring. I was also able to get my brake and tailights working. Here's some shots of what I ended up doing with the buckets and new wiring for the headlights. I'm going to modify the parking lights on top of the buckets eventually to be turn signals. I've had these old buckets for over a decade. It's nice to see them light up!! What I started with.... What I did..... What I ended up with!!!! I even had time for a short drive to a buddy's house. It's funny how making even small headway, like getting some lights wired up, can motivate you to keep plugging away!
Bill, the intake rules. I'd like something like that on my touring, with split stock exhaust manifolds... Looks great, Bugsy!
Brent, That's exactly what I'm going to do with this one!! Bill has my manifolds split and is having the pipes bent as we speak!! Great minds think alike!! I'm fabbing up my throttle linkage now. May end up doing a spoon pedal too.
Gotta say Bugsy, those new lights are looking sharp! At first I thought they might be too big for the car, but I think they work quit well! So I see you gained some lights...but you lost a windshield along the way?
Nice! Bill, set aside some of those intake fabbed parts. I want a "Bugsy Spl." intake for the touring. Now, I feel like the touring needs a cool name like The Bugsy Spl. or the Silver City Spl.
Clayton, I agree about the size of the light. I've kind of gone back and forth on them. I've got my eye on some other, smaller buckets but don't have the funds at the moment! My top and bottom windshield frames are at the glass shop and I'm trying to figure out if I want to pie-cut the posts to lean them back some or if i'm going to reposition them where they mount to gain some lean back. On a side note, I should have my Whippet radiator back from the shop this week!! I'm really looking forward to mounting it as that's been in the plan for the roadster since day one!! With the Whippet radiator and grille shell, the lights may look way too big then.....I just have to wait and see! HAHAHAHAHA!!!! Yes, you better give it a "Special" name!! All the cool kids are doing it!! I came up with "Dust Bowl Spl." from the era and the people that inspired this car...not to mention that I live in the dust bowl!!!
That's right! I forgot about the Whippet shell/radiator....hmmm. The Whippet shell is quite a bit smaller then the A shell...so those might be too big after all. just have to wait and see!
Thanks, fellas! I appreciate it! I have a ton left to do but it's coming along. I just need to stay focused! Next will be the windshield and radiator. Then the new intake and exhaust. After that, I just want to drive it through the fall. This winter I plan on adding a floater kit to the brakes and go through them 100%. I'm also going to install the "T", rear spring and reverse the front spring and remove a couple of leafs. My goal is to basically have it "done" for next spring so I can actually just spend time driving it!!
Weird - I had exactly the same set of lights sitting on the shelf in the same colour but eventually dug up a set of '30 lamps to use instead. As for the pedals, the floorboard support on my tub had already been hacked about so I cut it all out and didn't need to bend any pedals. Loving it!
Oh - also, I'm running a T rear spring and took 2 leaves out of the front spring just for the record. Started with four but as I have fenders the 19" wheels were a little too close for comfort.
That's funny! I picked this set up in Hawaii a long time ago. I'm not really sure what they are or what they came off of. They are bigger and more bullet shaped than a standard, Guide lamp with the markers on top. I thought maybe they came off of a truck but someone told me they thought they were off of a Packard. Who knows?? I do like them though! By the way, I LOVE your '23!! It looks like a blast to run around it!! And your tub is really SEXY!!!!
Why thank you! Pity you're too far away to go for a spin! Quite the little gang of T-n'A banger powered cars on the HAMB right now... I've decided I'll be taking the Tourer rather than the 'race car' up Prescott hill in a months time so watch out for video hopefully!
