im doing reserch on chopping my fleetilne,,,its a "crew cab" lol ...and wanted to set something up for the next guy in my shoes,,,, there are so many ways to chop one and then add in a 4door and any advise is helpfull..and i just wanted to put all this in one place!!!...... so if you know of any threads on fleet chops and detailed cuts would be great...
i like this style... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=214964&highlight=chopped+fleetlines
you had alot to do fitz... hope you dont mind but this link skips to your chop,,,, http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=501036&page=13
what were the specs on your chop,,,,? front and back.. and does any know the black 4 door fleet with 54 chevy tail lights.. id like to get his specs....ill try to find a pic
im messing with a 50 right now, there loads of fun, especially when another shop messes it up and you have to start over... check out B*** also, the 49 he chopped is pure chevy ****..
I say the best chop was done by B***. Love this thread and used it alot in my chop http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=202209
what i started with on the way almost chopped.. b*** would be proud,,,,ive ghopped alot of cars and i liked his idea best on this kinda car..thanks for the input... more tec pics to come
lil tec tip ,,,i just have it mocked up,,,but i moved the rear gl*** section forward about 3/4 to 1in and realigned it with the center part of my trunk lid... it looks right,,ill check it more tomorrow ,,and if so ,,i wont hafto remake/work the whole trunk lid... what do yall think? havnt seen any write up on that
So you cut the back window right out of the car? when i did mine i removed just the corners and let the window come up where it want to without cutting across the roof all the way.. then I just reworked the corners.
kinda,, more like the whole hack of the roof and trunk hinges,,, sorry,,,just like b***,,,,, and to be more clear im workin with a 4 door i dont have a rear 1/4 gl*** to move into,,(got another door to worrie about),,,so my aka "c" pilar can only move to the back of the 2nd door...thus having to slightly correct the "a"pilar and the "b" also...4 doors are alot harder!!!! but i think i nailed it!!;-)
if i'm not mistaken there is a write up of a chop masterson did on a 4 door fleet in an old edition of TRK. someone on here will chime in on the issue #. he does it in Hines fashion which is the way to do it if yer gonna do it. there' also a thread on here with a winfield chop on a 2 door with LOTS of pics.
thanks,,and yes hopefully someone that knows how to nagivate this site better than i,, will link them on here for me ,,,
finnished product...just a lil touch up here and there...but i love the flow ...not too much or too lil.... gonna be a cl***y 4 door...
i generally prefer my fleetlines unchopped, but i must say i dig the proportions on this one. i think its because its a four door and the windows give it a look of length or something. anyhow.... looking forward to seeing it in paint.
thanks so much guys,,,,, i got a lot of flac for doing a four door fleet like my merc,, but i love 4doors,,,and bohuff showed they can be cool too....( first chopped 4door merc i ever saw in person)....and the flow/lines looked better when chopped for some reason to me,,, friends wanted me to go lower on the chop say'n (your gonna do all that work for 3.75-4 in.,,, no one is gonna notice) my reply (real rodders will,,,the rest can wonder what kinda car this is,,,lol... i feel this is what chevy was going for , before some executive changed it....still looks factory but cooler;-)...more detailed build pics to come....and solutions to lil problems i encountered
I love the proportions of your car. It really flows well. I was really looking for a 4 door car when I bought my '51 Fleet, but it is a 2 door so that is what I am working with. Nice job on the chop and I think you nailed it on how much you took out.
thanks guys ,,it really means alot ,, i wanna build a car that will always be in style.. and others will use as a gauge... as to (how it could/should be dun) not boostin my head any,, cause thats all im doing off of . bill ,,gean,,, george, ,A brothers etc...
I AM using your car as a guage! Picking up my 1950 4 door fleetline this weekend, Short 6 hour drive across the Idaho desert and it will be mine! Your car looks perfect.
you are a long ways from me bro,,, and im sure there are sum great guys out there who can chop that thing,,,but i would love to chop another...just hit me up..and we will get it down here...
started on the 1/4s windows & trim today...and getting all the pic together for a full detail on the chop and what someone would need to know as best as i can explain it to do this chop...lol.. always hoping to help the next guy keep the hobby alive
