If the tubes weren't warmed up, the test pattern wouldn't show, since a test pattern is broadcast to the TV. More than likely, it's early in the day and the stations haven't started broadcasting yet. Remember, this is back when stations weren't on 24/7.

Or it was staged and they were hoping no one would notice

Doubt the "Test pattern" is a staged event . I'll explain. I'm one of those kids from the early 1950's who saw Television and Radio from a REPAIR standpoint. My Father was a radio repairman in the Navy. He served four years stationed in Guam. He came back to the states to be sent to Norfolk Virginia to repair ship radios . From there , he took in non working Television sets . Hey, we were one of the very first families to have even owned a television set in 1951.

For what it's worth, one of our regular posters, the guy who puts up all the Corvair pictures has a great collection of life here in Richmond Virginia , 1946-1965. He's already put up pictures of Richmond Virginia's Channel 6 on West Broad Street . The station went on the air in 1947. Now for what it's worth, not too many other stations were even on the air until 1955 ! Yes, watching a Test pattern was actually something....................... in 1953. scrubba

I recall well "back in the day" when programming wasn't 24 hours and stations signed off with the national anthem or something, usually with stirring footage, and "began our broadcast day" the same way. Many a saturday or any weekday morning for a pre-teen began with a test pattern, followed by some flag waving, and with any luck, Shari Lewis or Rocky and Bullwinkle or "The Big Picture".

Seen this pic. many times in the past but just noticed it must be pre-production as it appears the coupe has grills on the b-piller ,production 64's didn't have them, just indentations like 63's.

Sure it did, both '64 and '65 had fans for fresh air that exited through those grills.

I saw the Indian test pattern many a Saturday AM. I think Covered Wagon Theater was the first show. Don't get any better then B&W cowboys.
