After searching out a good deal for a machine that I wanted I found one on eBay. I must say while this battle isn't over I am really impressed with the whole processes so far. For those of you who don't know what this machine does take 5 min and youtube "Pullmax". Those of you that are in the know already have a good idea how useful this machine is. Weighing in at roughly 5840 lbs it was rather challenging unloading, moving and arranging it given the size of my shop. I included pictures of the machine and a collet wrench that I cut. Once things progress with this I'll keep updating this forum as to the mods I've made to make this machine functional. That is a regular size Redbull can next the machine to give you a sense of scale. In two weeks I'm moving shops to a better lay out. While the machine is outside I'll degrease and pressure wash this thing. If you guys are interested in a custom collet wrench PM and we can work something out www.facebook.com/dftplasma <-----check out more pics and other builds
Collet wrench looks nice.... keep in mind if you have tooling thats larger you will need an open wrench to get it over... such as louver dies, etc...
I thought about that.. I made a few others that didn't work as well. I'll modify them by cutting off one end of the wrench to make it work I guess. Even with the wrench I made the collet nuts were super tight after some persuasion I managed to get them loose.
Mind if I ask what you paid for it? I'm thinking of a smaller one but the P9 is bad ass. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Nope I don't mind at all.. I paid $4150 plus shipping (which was around $1300). The P9 is massive it still hasn't really set in that I finally have one! There is a P7 in the north east for $3750 with a bunch of different tooling. I might still have the sellers info from eBay. If you buy one on eBay I have a shipping company you should use. Best prices and the service is top notch! Plus the owner is a car guy to so he caters to us. Some friendly advice just get it shipped on a flat bed. These things are big and heavy so no need to try and struggle with it out of the back of a truck. http://www.stonetrucking.com/
Quick update... I just dropped the lower piece of the pullmax off(what holds the lower tool holder) at the machinist to get a 25mm spacer made to make the offset tool holder alined with the upper tooling.
A buddy bought one years ago, I knew they were shithot but little did I know HOW hot they were...good luck with your new toy!
How does that work then? You put the taper on the spacer on the left side and extend the slot on the right for adjusting the tool holder? I haven't seen this done. Since cost was mentioned earlier. I gave 7,500 for my P21 variable speed and pneumatic tool lift, delivered, with a bunch of new tooling, the centered and offset lower tool holder and an afternoon spent learning how to run it. I bought it from Stan Fulton who sells the the shrinking dies and a really slick beading die set.......That was way more money than I wanted to spend but in retrospect it was a deal.
You are on pro touring aren't you? I'll give this a shot to explain it... So the piece that lower tool holder slips into has four bolts, a roll pin and an alignment groove. I just unbolted it made some measurements and I think making a spacer the thickness of the tooling would cause the offset lower tool holder align to the top. I'll take pics of mine in a few days. This is a pic from another forum member's machine using the same concept.
Maybe for the guys in cali you can head to my shop one weekend and play with it once it I get it up and running. I've never used one before so we can all learn together lol. Thanks for the interest and info guys!
Hi Congrats to an amazing machine. Bought a P21 about three years ago from a guy who didn´t had a clue of what he got. Paid 4000 swedish crowns ( just about $ 600 ) for it including a lot of tools and dies. Couldn´t pick it up fast enough before he found out its real value. Made some own dieholders so I can make dies of any shape from flat bar. The limit for this machines is your own imagination. Good luck with it.
Sounds like you got a smokin' deal on that machine! I'm on the prowl for tooling for mine. There are some things I can't make on my own right now so I'd like to buy some to get me going at least.
Yes on the open ended wrench and spacer plate. Your in for some fun now. John P5 owner and one time P3 owner.
