63CadGuy- Great job ! Did you use the darker red for a base, then laced with the red body color on top of that , then flake added to the clear ? I always have a difficult time sorting the process in my head.

    Thanks.

    Again great job !

Yes, just click the image. I believe it's Gasoline Magazines chief who owns it.

  5. Rdemilt, I taped off the panels after I painted the van, then sprayed red flake, then covered the panels with the lace and then sprayed a darker red tinted clear through the lace at a low pressure, then cleared over the whole thing.

I still have to panel the roof and then it gets a full 70's red shag/panelling/bed in the back!

A lot of very inspiring work here! Here is my first flake and candy job. Silver flake with a custom mixed candy and white flake over a white base with candy fades. At one time I saw a Cadillac with a white flaked roof with what seemed like white flake patterns as well. I can't seem to think how this was done or find any pictures either. Does anybody think you paint a white base, make a pass of white flake, then layer the patterns with more white flake so that there is heavier flaked patterns within the first layer of flake? Does this even make sense?

That's essetially a laminate applied by a place in Australia. Beautiful results, but expensive. My wife talked to a faux-finisher about creating that effect with paint and it would take a lot of work, and probably would not look as nice. Some of the pros on teh HAMB may have other ideas though

Wow. This Packard looks like a long lost Barris/Watson collaboration from the late 50's. I fucking love it.
