Not as a bracket car or something later, but I wonder how long past 1970 this car actively competed ? I probably saw it and did not know it. Tom S.

Maybe 1971. It was adorned with a wild pink and purple paint scheme and had his name embossed the side from back to front. HRM did an article on the car. While still injected and running the Dart body, Isky used it in his ads promoting Miller as giant killer role because of his beating blown cars: All thanks to the Isky cam inside-(sic).

Poor photo quality but it shows how different Pomona looked then for a regular Sunday race and the size of Top Fuel tires of the day and the Smoke'em if you got the power launches

Based on car design I would say 64 or 65, a time when the christmas tree had long been established. However note the presence of the flagman making haste to get out of the cars way. PVTA still used a flagman I guess. .

  6. If the camera would have been shooting just a bit more to the left, you would see the old pump house down by the finish line that fed water to the property until the late 60's.

Sorry Dean I thought the caption would show. The car is Paul Southerlands "Charger" out of Woodys Race Car Engenering. This is July 4th weekend 1964 Paul won the show at Fontana the night before and also won Pomona that Sunday. Best of 7.67 @ 198+.
The Christmas Tree was introduced by NHRA at the Indy Nats 1963 many tracks took a while to follow,Minnesota Dragways stayed with the flag ontil 1965 then went to a horizontal tree hanging over the strip in 1965.
Paul Beat "The Goose" (Tom McQuen) in the Final that Sunday.I was the tire wiper for Paul that weekend as a part of the monster crew,Paul,Woody Gilmore,Ed Peters & I. The rig consisted of Woodys early 50's Ford pickup, the racecar on an open 2 wheel trailer. I drove to Pomona in my 51 Ford coupe from Long Beach.
A different time a different style of life & racing , gone but not forgotten

Thanks Mazooma. I've got a bunch of magazines I need to scan and post, if I could just get the kids off the computer. :)

Another great batch of shots. Here are a couple of Bob Kamp and family (K-Motion Racing).

Rumor has it that this 57 Vette was bought brand new to be a race car. Then, it was later returned to 100% stock and sold for a good investment return!

It wasnt just the calliope style injectors that made this car unique, but the choice of camshaft for a Westcoast car-Crane! The brothers later teamed up with another pair of Nor-Cal siblings, the Speigel Bros (former AA/GS guys) and ran the Brotherhood AA/FC 72 Cuda locally for a short while.

The Reinford Bros and the Moose were regulars at Atco back in the day. Seeing it here sure brings back memories!
