So I finally get my car out ( after a 4 year build) and 2 months on the road and a 90 year old man pulls outright in front of me.i swerved to the right and got over as far as I could but he still hit me right in the door.

  2. Sorry to hear about this, hope it's fixable and his insurance does right by you. There was a story on the radio a few days ago about a 100 (almost 101) year old driver in L. A. who backed over a bunch of people including children with a big Cadillac, none killed but several seriously injured. Scary.

  4. that really ****s

i forced the issue and got my 85 year old mother's license revoked and car keys taken so she wouldn't hit anybody. she was not happy , but it was the best for everyone. i know those old people like their independence , but someone in their family has to stand up and do the right thing

Would you feel any better if you got hit head-on by a 16 yr old girl texting?

I was not trying to be funny. I think I'd take my chances with 90 year old drivers, rather than texting drivers.

I feel your pain. After 2 years building my T Bucket, it got hit 3rd month on the road. It looks like you'll have her back in shape quickly.

Any body know how bad his insurance will screw me around with a car this old and relatively rare. I know some of you have been here before

Why not make drivers who hit 70 re-take a driving test, and then every couple years after that? It may save some lives.........

you guys might remember the little fender bender I was in with the truck in my avatar almost 2 years ago. I beleive the kid was texting that turned in front of me but I couldn't prove it. State Farm ws the insurance company and I have to say they treated me fair. But I really want to reply to 36-3window. I seen another thread a few days ago similar to this and 36-3 window did the right thing ! I had to do the same thing last year with my dad that then turned 84. I was seeing early signs of ahlzhiemers and was trying to convince him of volunteering to give it up but he wouldnt. He is a hot rodder, that's how I learned it, and currently has a 41 cad. He hadn't been driving it much and I think it was because there wasn't a straight panel on his daily driver and he knew he could damage the old cad. Any way I knew he would be upset so I pulled the ecm fuse on his car. eventually I put the fuse back in to move the car so we could clean the driveway this winter. He promised he wouldn't drive and he did and he hit something ,he wont say what but I think he understand now why I did what I did. The short of the story is we are finally speaking again and though it was hell I'm glad I did it because he could have very easily killed himself and someone else. So to you guys that are facing the same situation......it ain't gonna be easy but man up and do the right thing. Oldsvroom could have been killed and no one wants that! I will attach a pic of dads cad

I'd rather not be hit by anyone doing anything. If someone isn't capable of driving safely, no matter what the age, then they shouldn't. Period.

  25. Any accident is no picnic......maybe the old fella was awestruck over your nice car......at least no body was hurt ........sooner or later they will have to recognize the problem as just the other day the 100 year old man ran over some school kids , he really seemed to have it together though for being 100.......but lets face it when one gets up in age things are not like they were. Recently a girl ran into my daily driver because she went straight in a turn only lane........I was not happy and got out with some anger......a few moments later she told me her Mom had just died that day and she was sorry she was not completely focused ....i felt bad for her and did not call the law ....her insurance took care of it and all was well. Accidents will always happen , best to put on your best driving skills and avoid them the best ya' can.

The fact is we will all be old some day and it will be hard to give up something that you enjoy so much. Just looking at it from the other side. Hope I will know when it's my time to give it up. Glad no one was hurt and the damage doesn't look too bad. Good luck!
