^^^^ This is a good idea.

I was going to fab a "tomato can" on mine, but I am going to use the same setup as a '66 327 vette. It has a special PCV valve that threads into the oil fill tube. You also need the matching oil tube & cap.

i was wondering the same thing about this baffle. i went ahead and drilled the back of my #355 3x2 50's manifold and have drilled my middle carb plate. i just made a small aluminum baffle to mount over the fitting that enters the inside of the rear of the manifold. it's funny how often people are doing the exact same things that you're doing.

  3. Out of curiosity, if you are evacuating the engine through the capped (sealed)
oil fill tube, what are your plans for fresh air intake?

The idea behind this baffle is to keep hot oil off the bottom of the intake. May not completely eliminate the oil suck but it should cut it down to next to nothing.

  6. I don't know what I was thinking. I looked at the pics again and now it's obvious. Please disregard my previous post.

Also, the OP is correct in using a '64 PCV valve. At least for the vettes, 63-64 pcv's screwed into the carb base, whereas 66-67 SB vette PCV's screwed into the filler neck, so the "check" valve flows the other way on the later. I think 65's didn't use a PCV, just a hose & restriction - not sure

    63-64 is p/n CV-590

Just remember, if it were EASY or CHEAP to have an awesome old ride then everyone would have one and it wouldn't be as cool! Hang in there, you will get it!

Does anyone know what is on the inside of the original road draft baffle? I see some Fords (mid 60s Galaxies) have a rebuild kit for their baffles, but could not find a pic of the actual baffle.

I drilled my manifold in front of the dist. and plumbed the pcv into the middle carb riser on my tripower.

It was all hard piped in and the pcv was barely visable between the dist and back carb, BUT I found out the pcv valve did not work laying down and had to be vertical.

I repiped it with the pcv screwed in vertical to the manifold and it doesn't look as good but is now functional, just make sure your pcv valve will work laying down.

Given the fact that it is intended to be screwed into the carb base directly, it should. I have blown through it and it seems to work. Will allow air through normal flow direction but the other way.

For what your doing to work you have to have a "closed" oil cap, like the early Chevelles & vetts had & you have to have a tube running from one of the valve covers to the air filter.Thats the main function of a PCV! When your decelerate the valve comes into action, when you accelerate the tube from the valve cover ventilates the crank. If you look at a stock PCV its kind of easy to understand
I myself am not running a proper PCV.I drilled a hole in the back of my valve cover & stuck the PCV valve in it(Had to baffle it) & use the same oil fill tube as yours for a "inlet".To be proper i should have the oil tube capped & a hose from the base of it into the bottom of one of my air filters.
You don't need the copper tube.
