Please try the search function. It can be your best friend here on the HAMB.

^ ^ Very helpful  My aren't you just a wealth of info and enlightenment :p

In reality the search function can be like chasing a rabbit down the hole, confusing and not that effective. Finding something specific that you saw only a few days ago can be time wasting and frustrating too.

I have used urethane, but not Eastwoods. If you use it, I'd use thier whole system for best results. Eastwood does not manufacture paint; call and ask who makes it for them.

Urethane can lay out just fine, but be sure to cover your entire skin, and have a positive air supply. Do not go back too soon afterward. I'd now wait till the next day and blow the air out. The residual 'fumes' are still waiting to do harm.

I don't know anything about what Eastwood sells, but I can tell you that urethane paint is not all the same. There are different grades with different cost and properties. I have used a lot of first generation Deltron and original "U" series Imron. A while back I painted some tractor parts with a cheaper industrial grade Imron. It was harder to spray well and didn't have the gloss of "regular" Imron. Beyond that I can't tell you what other properties are different. The job turned out ok for what it was, but my point is, all urethane is not created equal. What Eastwood sells may be fine for what you are doing, but I would confirm that before buying.

Per what was already posted, handling, and especially spraying, catalyzed paint is a very real health hazard. Some people seem to be more susceptible than others. No project is worth the risk so don't take chances by using it without proper precautions and equipment.

  10. I've used some of their stuff on a O/T car before. Seemed ok, plus its only 5 minutes from my house

We used to have a supposed urethane paint in a rattle-can here. I haven't seen it in ages, and at one stage was really looking for it. It dried with a slight orange-peel finish, but once cured it could be whacked with a hammer as hard as you cared to, and no damage done.

I think Dupont Imron is considered urethane, and if so, we have used it quite a bit. It is extremely tough, lays down well, and has good gloss retention. I like it, but it is climbing in price. Last time we bought the activator it was something like $ 119.

  13. I didn't know that they still made Imron, that is good stuff. Tuff as nails and if applied right it can be deeper than a well.

There is presently a family of paints under the Imron name. The original single stage "U" series is still available in a few pre-mixed colors, black is one of those colors. The formula has been "improved" a coupe times over the years, but it's still really good paint.

I have used PPG urethane on a few of my cars and I got great results. It is available in single stage of base coat clear coat. As stated above you definitely need to take the proper precautions when using it.It color sands and buffs easily and will give a very high gloss and durable finish . See the attached info on the paint and how to deal with the isocyanates that it contains.

I have read that Eastwood's paint is made by Kirker which gets pretty good reviews but I have also heard that their paint is made by Sherwin Williams. Both get pretty decent reviews.

I plan on spraying my MGB with the Kirker brand black Diamond low VOC that TP is now selling. I am spraying it with a turbine HVLP in my garage so it may not be a good judge of how good the paint is.

I haven't used Eastwoods urethane but I've used PPG urethane clears and Omni high solids urethane clear as well and was pleased with the results. If you haven't done alot of spraying or have limited spraying skills, I don't know if I would recomend it. You can't be timid when laying it on, needs full wet coats to lay out decent. Dries very glossy and buffs out well with what I've used.

Oh, and all urethane paints are catalized and catalized paints have Isos. That **** will kill you and a regular charcoal mask will not work. You should use a supplied air mask.

I posted in a thread asking about good single stage urethane paint here in Canada.

I have found out that we are not limited to the wimpy "environmentally friendly" water based **** the government is trying to shove down our throats.

We can buy good "industrial" SS Urethane paint such as Glasurit 22 line. :)

Any idea of the pricing? The new "enviro friendly" paints seem to have been a great reason for the makers to jack their prices way up...its over $200 for a gallon of DTM epoxy primer around here....

Not cheap by any means, however Glasurit has always been a premium quality product with the ***ociated price.

A sprayable gallon and a half is about $600.

I just bought Eastwood single stage urethane in wimbleton white for my 57 Ford. So far I just did the firewall and floor before putting the body on the frame. I liked it for $133 gallons. It lays out nice and has a decent gloss. I will know more the more I do. I have never heard of eastwood selling **** either.

I've posted in a coupl other threads about this on here. I use a lot of Eastwood urethanes along with their primers and epoxy. It is a great mid level material and the price is right. It lays out well, the Candies are about like everybody elses when it comes to blend etc, and the metallics are really nice. Like was mentioned above, use the whole system. (I shot some wheels for a guy who told me there was epoxy primer/sealer on and it turned out to be Rustoleum. I never saw such a great wrinkle finish in my life). As with most urethanes, proportion is critical when mixing.

I will say, the gloss is phenominal, almost too "shiney". If you are going to block and wheel the car, anything other than a dailey driver, do so in the first few days, after that it is possible but it gets really hard. It doesn't chip readily and is reasonably fuel and heat resistant so motors are OK. Their ceramic motor colors are very nice! I also use their ch***is stuff. Some colors need to be applied over a base color for an even finish and all the metallics need a clear coat even though they say they don't. The make some real nice clears as well if you're going that route.

In short, no HOK but good workable product that seems to hold up well. There is no manufacturer listed on the cans but it says it is USA made and the packaging is remarkably close to Sherwin Williams stuff so who knows?

The satin black on the wagon in my avatar is a urethane. Its a BASF product called Limco - 3. It goes for $18.50 a quart. The hardener is more then twice that price. It came out great on the wagon.
