I've been loving this car since Kiwi Kev posted the magazine article at post#2899. I love the fact its almost stock looking but with wide rear steels and slicks and cut-out rear arches. I thought it must be the same car and with you saying it's from the Lorenzen collection confirmed it with the magazine article. Thanks for posting the additional pictures, nice to see it in color. Sure looks like a great collection he has

I don't think the rear arches are cut out - those look like 1937/38 fenders which have a larger cut out than the later 1939 Overland and up type....

You guys keep talking about the running boards and wing windows BUT what about the rear tail pan? I have never seen one like this!!!

  6. That's a first for me too!!! Looks like a VW tail pan!

License plate says PR Curitiba which puts the car in Brazil. That would explain the VW tailpan - South Americans like Cubans are resourceful and use whatever they have to fix old cars....

I recently heard that the same person that owns The Kirby's Challanger, chopped Willys coupe now also own's The Mura Brothers Willys Pickup. Does anyone also know that to be true?

I believe that episode does not air until Sept. 10. This is the description
    from the program listings.

The Gas Monkey crew revives a rust-and-rat filled 59 Rambler to make it SoCal surf-worthy once again. Richard haggles for a 31 Model A. His new Willys Coupe Gasser could be worth $200K if Richard can prove its connection to a legendary drag racing team.

Looks like BASS got the car from the Fast And Loud guys, both are in Dallas TX. I'm sure it's better off in his hands. It's hard to tell what those guys would have done too it.

I found that clip earlier today and thought the same thing. I saw those front wheels and that rear tailpan, and immediately knew it was the same car Bass bought recently.

Thank God Bass got it before those guys "built" it. I can only imagine what the Gas Monkey crew might have done.

So... I wonder if all blue Willys gassers were once SWC cars?

Wow, My car was also blue back in the day when it was raced. It must be a SWC car! I guess I dont have to research the history now!

I won't claim to know Willys, just love them. But I do know VW's. Could this have been an export only panel for Willys? Any other assembly plants in another country?

I believe that Australia , the Netherlands and New Zealand were the only countries to build Willys bodies outside of the U.S. and Canada. Export Willys would most likely have been shipped from Canada or the U.S. as complete cars - some RHD but of North American build. South American cars are notorious for being fixed with other car parts not original to the car....

  30. Hey guys, I only mentioned VW because that is what it looks like. I have an article somewhere, way back before Marcel, Roland, Kay and the other metal guys were making sheet metal for Willys, about using a VW tail pan to help repair the usually rusted, dented tail pan on a Willys. It wasn't a perfect match, but it had some of the same compound curves found back there. Maybe that's all they had available.
For the VW guy(noboD)...are there any VW wiper set ups that might work on a Willys???
16 inches on my '39, and 17-1/4 on my '36, center to center on the holes. Possibly from some of the flat glass cars, but ones that had 12 volt systems...I don't know those years and models.
    Thanks.
