And you are born in '61? Hell you are close to my age, and when I hear "droid" the only thing I think of is R2D2...

    Lone star Mopar,
As long as you got all that, good. 'Cept history isn't imagined, it's real. In our case, just look at the pictures. What others interpet it as in the future is what's imagined. Oh, and guys with foam swords are ****s!

I agree, and Im glad we have a place like this where folks can learn what history was ACTUALLY like, and not just re write things as they imagine it was... There seems to be a trend of people wanting to re write history to suit thier own personal tastes and opinions... I prefer facts.

  4. This is how history becomes dilluted and disapears, because nobody cares enough to keep it alive. This is something that obviously isn't a big deal to you. I however, care enough.

OK history questions as it relates to as it was only
G***er street legal in race form ?
Street able (drivable) in normal 1960s traffic?
Average compression ratio of typical G***er ?

I believe I know the answers but I was still just a toddler at the time and was not there

Go to PICTURES. Unfortunately, the memory fades as people get older and the mind fills in gaps that may not be spot on. Pictures are hard to dispute.

Ask alost any hot rodder if he had the fastest car in school, almost always it is remembered as YES. They cant all be the fastest. Is he lying? Not really, his mind is filling in the gaps.

Even on here, I often read things that maybe the guy remembers it that way, but pictures, books, and magazines will dispute his memory. Is is worth calling him out on it? Nope, what does it gain?

    go twitchy,
It's not about using or buying whats on the list, but it's definitely knowing what is correct and what is not, and how it should be used. This is how history becomes dilluted and disapears, because nobody cares enough to keep it alive. This is something that obviously isn't a big deal to you. I however, care enough.
[/QUOTE] theres alot of "formula" car here, please. i can't begin to list all the post of someone getting their first model a coupe and whats the first thing to happen, the top gets chopped. the whole g***er street scene is another i don't care for. ever early 60's falcon has to be in the g***er style now.it' ok though, it's their ride. the original question was ask about what we thought of two similar wheels HE liked. i made the miatake of posting a picture of one of my vans with the wheels in question, and got labeled as a g***er. g***er is just a name that scott at ET uses. if anything, mine might have a pro street thing going on.(another name i can live without) you are right on one thing about me though, and it's that i don't build any of my cars to fit a certain time in history as i'm not a curator. it's just not my job. theres lots of real race machines and great pictures of them to do that. with the exception of my 1912, i take liberty's for lot's of reasons. safety, personal comfort, taste. hot rodder in the 40's 50's 60's used what parts made sence for them and their project. i'm no differnt.

The gas cl***es grew out of NHRA's coupe/sedan cl*** sometime in '57 or so. Part of the original intention of the coupe/sedan cl*** was the car be street legal and full fendered. Hiboys , sevearly chopped tops, etc. was bumped to the Modified coupe/sedan cl***es which were basically unlimited. So yes, early on the idea was "drive it there, race it, drive it home". But the cl*** was popular, and kinda took on a life of it's own. Make no mistake that by '63 or so a g***er was a purpose built race car. t that point no they wouldn't have faired well on city streets in traffic, but the rules still stated wipers, headlights, tail lights, cooling system, and brakes. As a matter of fact, look at Stone Woods and Cook's earlier photos and you'll see a license plate on the car. The next big jump for gas cl*** was '66 or '67 when the top runners switched to new body styles and Gas and F/X did a weird little merge/cross polination thing and funny cars were born. As far as compression ratios go, who knows? It's not an issue either way. But I know one of my "street cars" (o/t) ran as high as almost 13 to 1... Nothing like getting your monthly 55 gallon drum of racing gas to drive to work.

Full disclosure time. I am 47 years old, but I grew up at race tracks and in the company of racers from the time I was born. I have also logged probably more "study hours" with my magazine collection than most would ever dream. Plus, when I can't answer stuff, I ask any one of my buddies who was there.

  14. Just got back from a ride in my fifty year old 4000+lb car, with drums all around. No disk brakes, why the **** am I not dead? Terrifying, I'm buying a Prius first thing in the morning.

P.S. Visible disk brakes on a period car are as gay as full blown A.I.D.S. And all my buddies who have them and read this, I don't give a ****.

Why is everybody afraid of the Cragar S/S? They were out in 64, on a lot of Gas Cl*** Racers in 65, and later. as well as many other cars that are H.A.M.B. Friendly. The top cars ran many different combos,. There were 5 spokes with whitewall slicks, which was a brief period around 1962. There were chrome reversed steelie, lots of chrome, and even painted stock front wheels, and many other combos based on rear axle types.
What kind of car are you trying to build? aa/gs, b/g, c,d,e? Modified production? Street G***er, or Street Freak?
Mine is loosely a B/Gas Street machine, which could have been around in 1965, although very few guys would have had a new 413 in their car. More like a 69, or later street g***er. Really though, it is my car being built for fun, my way.
