What is ten grand In the hot rod world? Doesn't seem like it goes very far other than a decent body that is on a ch***is... What's a running barn find 30 model a with ? That's rust free and straight ?

  2. 10 grand can still build you a hot rod if you do all the work, shop carefully for parts and build a basic car

that's about what i have in the car in my avatar

  3. i was offered 9,for my hotrod and refused it in a second. yeah you can build one yourself for about that but you have to do ALL the work yourself. ive got a little less in mine but so much metal work it would have been 10k alone if a shop did just that.

Ten grand should come close to getting you a Model A Sedan that is an older restoration that you can drive home but is starting to look a bit tired around the edges.
It might also get you someone else's half finished project with a lot done and a lot of extra pieces that you would have to buy but lately a lot of guys seem to think unfinished hot rod projects are the new gold standard and want more for them than you would spend if you bought the pieces separately and put the car together from scratch. A look in the cl***ifieds here or looking at the project cars offered on Hot rod hotline dot com will quickly show that.

I figure to have right at 10K in my Model A Victoria less interior when I get it up and going.
That is keeping it pretty simple though and not running out and buying a lot of stuff that shines pretty for the engine or ch***is.

The one thing to remember is don't pay for things like new wheels and tires that don't fit in your plans for the car or you don't have a ready market for. I see cars all the time that may be worth 8K but have a 12k asking price because they have a new set of wheels and tires on them that the seller thinks add three times their cost to the value of the car.

  5. I got a real decent '38 tudor rolling for way less than 10K.
Stop thinking E-Bay and start thinking HAMB, stop the madness.

Oh you should be able to get yourself an A bone for about what I got in my '38.

I'm nearby sort of... around here, a barn find, Model A sedan can be had for 5k or under if you wait for the right deal. A coupe can go a low as 5k but not often.

Rust free is a stretch; there will always be a few tiny spots at the fenderwelting, and near the running boards, etc. That would be considered "good" for a N.East car. And you will see some ripples and dents in the fenders.

10K for a barn model A is too much, think $3K
Hell $12K gets you an older restored model A.

Like ****** said, you gotta get out in the real world. And you gotta do most of the work yourself. What's the fun of buildin a rod if someone else built it? Anyone can weld, paint, beat on metal. The pros started somewhere.
By the way 10 grand is about $9,995 more than I have handy.

I could have a blast with ten grand. With that much I know of three cars I could get and still probably have a little left over. Two are a coupes and one is a 39 ford standard coupe. Got to get out and look. Find them before others do.

all new firestone tires and tubes

???????? How new is all new? Seven years old is too old for tires now days. At least that's what some say. On the other hand if it looked straight, little rust, decent interior, ran good, I'd buy it.
Unless I missed it, what body style is it? A coupe or convertible would make me drool.

None of my bar finds cost me $10k, except for one I married that time. She cost me a hell of a lot more.

Paid $8,000 for this. aside for wheels and tires all original, 61,000 mis. with original interior.
Drove it home. Runs like a sewing machine! You have to look. You have to be persistent.
When you find one, stay on the owner as best you can without being a ****.
Swap meets, alleys, friends talk about this old car they know of.
They hardly ever come to you. You will do better out in the country than in the city, and it's a great excuse for a Sunday drive.

Sounds like you are set on buying it but at least make a lower offer. Remember its for sale and in this economy not to many people are going to dish out 10grand for a 4 banger stock Model -A. Look around and you can find one already with updated engine, suspension and brakes for less than $10,000. Don't believe any prices you see on E-bay,90% of those auctions are fake anyway. People making their own bids just makeing it look like somebody really wants the car.

10 grand is what I thought I could build it for. When I p***ed it, I stopped counting.

Wasn't the Roach Rod built for under $5K? Or am I thinking of the BFD?

$10k can actually go sooo damned far if you really want it to. You could build a killer little t-roadster for that... Or a really nice driver '46-'48 Ford... Or a clean little early 50's chevy... or...

I'd be rich if I had 10K to spend on a car all at once... If you can't something going with that kind of money your in the wrong hobby. Keep at it, you'll find one that suits you, and you'll be ready when you do!

Shop around take that ten grand with you to swap meets or just take a road trip and see what you find. You would be amazed what people will sell when the cash is in front of them. Most are use to peoples bs and not having cash on hand.
