Looking at updating a rod built in late 70's. 38 Chevy & has 68 or 9 corvair front susp. Looking to install a M2 style susp. I have seen may suppliers have them. Any better than the next aside form brake and coil over options? Hiedts Speedway/ Lakeshore Ch***is Engineering Art Morrison Others which ones are constructed the best regarding longevity? Easiest to install? What ref points are used to install. pros and cons of bolt-in vs welded? Leaning toward welded at this point thoughts appreciated
There is Fat Boy that a lot of guys like, rather nice. I have never done business with them, but a lot of hot rodders marvel, that they are the best. I personally have used Ch***ic Engineering, and very good Company to deal with. The guy i talked to, really knew the old Chevy's. Most S/W Ohio Hamb ***ociates use them, others Fat Boy. Good Luck, & Cruise On ! Old Dude
Check out my 46 Dodge pickup build on HAMB. All Jag. 79-86 XJ6. IFS can be bought for $100 or $200. Only thing to work out is rear steer. Complete bolt in or can weld in. Milton
I used one that was a basic crossmember and spring hat type kit, can't recall the name, not one of the ones you listed. Mine uses the stock Must II control arms - lower with strut rod and upper. Welded in and have not had any problems after many years and miles. The Chevy enclosed top hat frames are not real thick, so just make sure your welding is good. Sufficient penetration, but not blowing through. I tied the upper spring hats into the crossmsmber, and used the stronger flange area for the strut rod attachment.
Got mine from JW HOt Rod. Great guys to work with, fast delivery and straight forward install. Used tubular arms and avoided the strut arm install. Cut the front rad support out and made my own. You can buy one but it wasn't to bad to make my own. Car is on the road now with 3000 miles on it and it handles like a dream and no bump steer or issues.
can't go wrong with the FATMAN FABRICATIONs setup. I say get some catalogs from the various companies and see what they have to say about there products.
Lakeshore is prett stand up, they are just down the road from me and have good service and quality. I put on in a 39 Chevy coupe, and many 35-40 Fords. Never had a problem.
Seems like they are all similar. Just a matter of who you like best. Been researching and going thought the catalogs. Seems 3-3500 is the price for disc to disc, coil over setups. Anxious to see how it handles after an alignment of what is on the car now. Hopefully it will suffice for a little.
