"The Boneyard" Davis-Monthan AFB in Tuscon AZ. My Aunt told me that even into the early 80s when she bagan working there there were still a lot of decomissioned WWII aircraft stored there. She said they even let her check out the inside of a B-29! Wish I would have been old enough then to appreciate such history......all gone now, unfortunetly. But the Pima Air and Space Museum next to the base has much of the "significant" aircraft that had once been housed there.

I mentioned earlier they're officers of the NY 69th at Fort Corcoran Arlington VA.
Commander Col Michael Corcoran on the left refused to parade his troops for the Prince of Wales and was to be courtmartialed when war broke out and charges were dropped.
The 69th used smoothbore muskets for the first 2 or 3 years of the war so they could fire ball and buck shot, effective at close range but switched to rifles as ranges increased.
Grapeshot was similar to above balls but wrapped in fabric and resembling a bunch of grapes.

  19. That's one way to fix a cracked windshield I'd say.

As for the cannon and the projectiles, think of it as their version of our modern day cluster bombs.

It really does take three men to change a light bulb, and that is what is going on in the photo dated October 5, 1939. The plane went on to set a 726 non-stop endurace record. All the details along with another photo are @ theoldmotor.com
