Alright, I know it's a worthless thread, but I was talking with some old timer hot-rodders and we agree that some cars should not be chopped.
    1949-51 ford cars
    Post war trucks
    32 ford (cars)
    55-57 chevys
Pre war Mopars (they already look chopped)
    Any car after 1960
Again, I know its stupid, but I've been seeing too many cool cars ruined.
By the way, if you have a Model T....Chop it!!

I think some tri fives look pretty good chopped if done tastefully

I think 52-54 Ford cars look pretty bad chopped; never seen one that flows very well.

39-40 Ford coupes. They completely lose their style when you chop them.
Early- 32-34 type Dodges, they are chopped from the factory.

I think the girl makes the car look good, but then again, I'm pretty bias... Not the biggest fan of "customs"

  6. Chop them all. About the only ones that don't look like they need it are 41-54 Hudsons.

Ditto on 39 and 40's, and I'll add 37 and 38 too. Henry got them right on the first design.

It's not a Hot Rod unless it has 3 pedals and a chopped top, that's my opinion and it includes my 2 '32 Fords.

  9. i have to disagree on the `49-`51 and `32 fords

Disagree on the 49-51 fords but have never seen a good chop on a 52-54 ford.

It's off topic but I once saw a 69 AMX on E bay that had been chopped. It was a travesty! made me throw up a little.

It's not the Car it's the Chop. Some cars gain from a haircut done right, while I've seen '50 Mercs ruined by the chop, that's a car you would think was a no brainer on the chop. It's all about proportion and restraint. The final color has alot to do with it as well.

The classics like Sam Barris, Winfield, Hines, Etc..., the Stuff Brad Masterson does right now is really good, as is the Rudy stuff. Ian Berky's car is super tasteful as well, there's lots of others.

I won't list my least favorite chops as that's a point of taste and personal interpetation.

Some cars I think look better with a full lid are

    39-40 Ford Coupes and Sedans
    55-57 Chevy's
35-37 ford five windows- Three Windows are sexy full lid or mild custon.
Any Sedan Delivery needs all the roof it can get.
    F-1 pick ups
anything across 1960 street is pretty swoopy already.

the best ones to chop for me are

    28-34 Coupes and Roadsters
    49-51 Mercs
51-54 Chevy's especially the Hartops- I wish now I would have shaved mine 2" maybe it's just a phase?

    Mid 50's Olds and Poncho's
    '63-'64 Impala Coupes
'63-65 Rivieras with a very mild chop are fabulous.

As for sectioning I can't name a single car that looks better.

Wasn't trying to piss people off, but the older I get, the more I LOOOVE the resto-rod. Most of these cars were perfect the day they were built. I don't know who owns it, but I saw a 35 or 36 5 window on main st in st. charles mo. This car was perfect! Very stock looking except for the stance, polished flattie, and 5 sp on the floor.

I know you already mentioned pre-war Mopars but I 2nd that. I had a '34 PE Coupe that looked chopped from the factory. They really got the proportions of the body right.

  20. Have you ever seen the Doyle Gammel 32 3w or Royalshifters Victoria? Can't convince me either would look better unchopped but everyone likes different stuff.

I can't think of a '60s era Ford that should ever be chopped, and nothing with a wheel base less than a '60 Falcon, in general terms, should be chopped. There are always exceptions to the rule.

I agree, those 49-51 Fords look way better chopped. I never seen a 32 chopped that didn't look good. As long as they didn't go overboard. Seen a lot of cars with to much chop that looked like a freak show.

All Fords should be chopped and recycled so more Kias can be made.
