Glad you made it home safe with only minor breakage. If you had fun & enjoyed the company of friends it was a trip worthwhile. We all need to start planning to make the 2013 NHRR in Bowling Green. My friend & former colleague Linwood Dupuy will be honored at the event.....Mike

    Roy,
Glad to hear your trip was safe and a great time. That long haul would be expensive and hard on body getting back in swing of work and catching up at home. Memories make it all good. Hope your back together in time for CHRR...Al

I could not get a response from Long Shifters so I rebuilt the shift arm, took two to make one, works like new[ran it on stands]. I still want to get all three arms from Long and keep mine as spares, will try again Monday to contact Long.CHRR is still on for me,will be trying to qualify for A/FX,I already have DF's[promoter] blessing to run with those guys, hope the temp drops in California's central valley!! It was over 100 plus high humidity last week!! ROY.

Roy, Great to hear was easy fix and you'll end up with back-ups. I remember you saying you were getting to run AFX, hope it does cool off or at least loose the humidity. The fresh seat time will have you ready to win some rounds at CHRR! What is your best ET?...Al

Al; my best ET so far is a 10.33,done it twice,a couple 10.34s,a 10.37 and a 10.39 all at 128+ and one 129+mph,and a few 10.40s.I qualified at last years CHRR #7 with a 10.44 on the Comets third ever pass!!Qualifying depends a lot on who shows up and if they change the rules raceday[happens too often]!!In 2009 it took a 10.34 to qualify, last year I think it was a high 10.It can be a good time, can get real CRAZY though[drunks with fireworks]get to hang out with some good people! ROY.

Good to hear you'll be ready Roy. Got alot done on mine, but the stuff that doesnt show, in couple weeks I will have rolling on suspension. Just taking my time assembling, hand rubbing door jambs, seam sealer,etc.. So far so good though! Its starting to look like the car in my mind, which is good, it don't always end up that way. I'll be posting a picture soon as it rolls outside....Al

Al, Roy is right. Those details are yours alone, and make all the difference in the final product. Seeing what you have done, I have no doubt that will be a top shelf car!!

Not to highjack the thread but I have glass fenders and hood from back in the 60's on my Comet I'm thinking about glassing together to make a tilt front end on my 65. The parts are in rough shape from 40+ years of abuse with cracks, stone spiders, delamination on the hood etc. I want to make sure the parts aren't of any value before I start, I don't want to do like my parents did and through away a stack of 78 records they thought were junk only to find out the were worth a bunch of money later. What do y'all think?

A question for my racing friends...

Does anyone know of a "tapered carb spacer" that is made at an angle so as to help "level" out a carburetor?? With the mile-high front stance, and the engine angle, even with jet extensions, I've been asked by my new engine builder to try to level it out.. I've checked Wilson's site, but they show a funny compound unit that is skewed for the roundy-round stuff...

Any ideas, or a point in the right direction??

    Many thanks!

    Dale

The police actually stopped by, saw we were a bunch of old smackerdoodles, and said have fun and don't get hurt. They even mentioned they'd let the shift change know to not roll.... Pays to make HUGE donations to police and fire charites?????;)

Dale. I have seen tapered carb spacers for marine applications. That is an area to look. I will do some looking and see if I can come up with something? Brian

When the dust finally settles, after we fix throttle linkage, and more time tuning (maybe knock the chrome steel bumpers off, deep 11's .... And all still outta the venerable little 289.......

Judd;I think you could,or should, mold them as one piece for a tilting front end!!!If anyone wants light weight fenders and hood Crites will build race weight pieces! ROY.
