Screw dynamat. Peel and seel great sound dampening material....

Just picked up another roll at LOWES,I have the interior out of the car to upgrade it and found another thing I liked about it.The car has an Carter electric fuel pump that sent an irritating noise through the floor.I added material to the floor area and the upper part of the trunk behind the rear seat and it is a lot quieter.

 

hmm i just walked into lowes yesterday to buy some more couldnt find it all i found was the stuff without the aluminum backing

 

iv been to two lowes and cant find it..

WAY cool info,....Thanks to all for sharing !!!!!!!!!!! As much as I hate to be "disloyal" to the local rod parts emporiums,...But, Lowe's is also local,... and that's just as good. Does it need to be on bare metal, or will it stay on a primer surface ?

i used loads of that in my wagon . in the florida heat it did run or ooze a little material . no odors but a stain

 

Did the '62 Galaxie and I can't belive how much this helps dampen the noise, a much better cabin due to the quietness!!

 

Don't think bare metal or painted makes a difference. My truck is painted and it's working great. Check page 1 first post. It is great stuff that's why I made this thread . Made a big difference for a cheap price

All I could think as I was installing this stuff in my wagon was "Viva La HAMB!" I think one layer of this along with the new carpet should be much quieter. Thanks for posting!

I make sure to wash vertical and overhead surfaces, then spray undercoating around the edges of the sounddeadner to keep it from coming loose.

 

Most of the rodders here are using the peel and seal, great stuff.

 

I actually ended up doing this in my 55 chevy.

I used DP90 Epoxy primer on the interior and the Peel n' seal stuff is sticking great.
I've kept an eye on the vertical firewall areas, and it shows no signs of letting go.
Its been in for a month now, its been in the sun alot, along with running and driving heat. Ill say its held up good.
It applies pretty easy, and was kinda fun to do. Its one of those projects where you just FEEL like your making you car BETTER.
I had absolutely NO out-gassing, like null...I had to basicly stick it to my nose to smell it. IMO, the whole "Makes the car smell like asphalt" jive is just BS. IMO
I have no carpet and the stuff has held up well to rubbing, tools, feet etc, My chick wore heels for a car show one day so i just said to be carefull as far as tearing the stuff was concerned. but theres been no issues.

I've never noticed my feet getting warm, even on long drives . never had that from any of my old cars!. i LIKE it.

now... i used it for heat, and to take some of the "tin can" sound out of the car. it has helped with both. You can tell.
i have no radio, so i didnt use it for a ground pounding system or anything. BUT for me, it does a very good job. at making the car "More better n' plesant like"

Also another upside is it covers up any holes you dont want in the firewall or floorboard. you can cut it out later if you decide to use the hole again.
cuts down on road heat and draft really well.

***Also gives your ride that "air de elegance" Race car look

I will use it again on my next project.

i dont know if anyone has said this yet but peel and seal does not work as good as a high quality sound deadener. It is tar based instead of butyl based like proper sound deadener. all peel and seal does is make the panel heavier, slightly decreasing vibrations. good sound deadeners actually absorb the sound and transfer it into low levels of heat.
I am a car stereo installer so I have done a ton of research on the subject. some good cheap alternatives to dynamat are audiotechnix and second skin

 

I'm more than convinced.......Heading to Lowe's in a few !!!!!!!!!!

One thing to remember that most hotrodders are not "audiophiles" unless you include "open headers and straight pipes"!

 

I said that earlier. Literally the same price and made for inside. This peel and stick is not made for inside a car. Even some folks have noted issues with this stuff.

 

I did the roof of the wagon with the peel and seal after painting it with POR 15, and did the floors with a coat of home made lizard skin followed by Hushmat as I had a bulk box of it a guy left in a garage he was renting from me




The roof was VERY tinny with the car gutted, after adding the peel and seal it sounds like you are tapping on a Sherman tank.

 

Did the 61 Chevy C10 this morning. 3 1/2 rolls $16.99 a roll,man this stuff is easy to work with . Got the rear lowered now too using $169 lowering springs.

 

Used this method about 5 years ago on my 48 chevy aerosedan. Painted the floors,roof etc with por 15 then used peel & stick. I also did the roof and no problems at all. I did take a torch after doing the roof and heated the entire area this actually melts the tar slightly and there is no way it will come down just try it and then try to pull it down you won't.
I also bought the small about 1/4" bubble wrap for hot water heaters and placed that over the peel & stick before laying carpet.

Hey, who doesn't like to beat the system?

So I used Peel & Seal in the roadster about 2 years ago. Put down two and three layers on the floor, inside body panels and doors. Still wind noise of course but the thing seems to have less vibration and noise transfer. We also used in in my sons 90 Chevy truck last Spring and it works great. Need to pull the headliner and do the top too.

Save your money and forget the over priced "other stuff"...

It can be ordered in the wider size.
Lowes only had the maybe 8in wide rolls. Its a good size to work with. especially when your under the dash and what not.

By the way, I had to do a lotta walking around untill i figured out it was in the ROOFING section, and not in the insulation or sealant areas. Duh.!

They did have some "Similar" stuff right next to it on the shelf. Looked the same but was a bit cheaper. Trust me, Get the PEEL N' SEAL brand. Much better quality. thicker too.

Tore out that crap aluminum backed jute padding swap meet stuff that i had spray glued to my floor and replaced it with peel and seal, let me tell you, what a difference in noise and surprisingly heat as well. It was a damn oven in there before. Now it's tolerable. Adding carpet this week so it will be quiet and quite comfortable from the heat transfer. Awesome thread, it convinced me to go ahead and get it done.

 

Did my 48 also. Worked like a charm. I used a heat gun then rolled it with a Formica roller.

 

well i went out and bought some too.... just about finished, i need one more roll. it does go down real easy.. i cleaned the floor real good with hot soapy water before i put it down, stuck real good...
