My truck isn't going to make it out this season, so it's got me to thinking about storage. What do you do when you put your car away for the winter and why?
in my hot rods i put some sta-bil in the fuel tank and then run it for a while to get the stuff up into the carb. then i leave it sit all winter in my lawn mowers and motorcycle where i can turn off the fuel , i put sta-bil in the fuel tank and then run it for a while . then turn off the fuel and run it dry
Put a heavy dose of Sta-bil and a full tank of gas, run the engine until you're confident that the treated fuel has flowed through the carb. Gas can "turn" in as little time as a month, a full tank will keep condensation to a minimum.
When I lived in central Illinois I cried a lot! Some people have a long list of things they do to winterize. I mostly just made sure the antifreeze was filled to handle the cold weather, run the carb dry, disconnect the battery, sometimes remove it, throw a car cover over it in the garage, and cry some more, as I ran to the house to warm up. But I finaly found a cure for all that. We retired and moved to Florida. Since 1994 we haven't had an off season yet.
My tank is in the cab with the fuel line at the top. I can disconect the line from the tank and let the carb run dry while leaving the tank full and use some stabil.
I make sure the antifreeze is good, and put the battery on the tender. Last winter, I drove mine around the Holidays, the weather was nice, and no salt. I hate total storage.
