Lets bring this thread back up with this great picture from Riks site! Sorry if it was posted before.
Thanks JJ. Next step is to notch the rear frame so it wont bottom out on the crappy roads around here. I am also planning on building up a chevy I6 235 with dual carb intake and split/dual exhaust, T5 tranny and late model rear with 3:73 gears. Thanks again. Paul
Did Cadillac invent the single bar flipper? I was looking at some photo's of early cadillac's and noticed the 34 caddy V16 cars had flipper caps. Not exactly the same as the aftermarket custom caps, but probably enough to spark the idea. The black coupe is insanely cool!
that's a stretch. Henry Leland took over one of Ford's first failed automotive ventures and turned it into Cadillac. Henry Leland deserves credit for making Cadillac what it was. Leland also founded Lincoln.
As I’m sure most custom enthusiasts will agree, many of the coolest early customs are early Fords and Mercs (of which I am a big fan of), of course there are others that I dig but the Fords and Mercs are my favorite. Many of those cars run flipper caps which I also dig. It was pointed out that flipper caps first came out on Cadillacs-something that I didn’t know and also something that I think is pretty cool, considering I am a Cadillac fan as well. Now, in my comment, if you’ll read it carefully, you will see that I am simply pointing out an additional fun-fact that what began as the Henry Ford Motor Company ended up being Cadillac, that’s all. The goal wasn’t to assign credit to one person over another. I have been into Cadillacs for quite a while and I am aware of the company’s history and Leland etc. (bought my first vintage Cadillac over 15 years ago-same year i bought my first early ford V8) Furthermore, I’m sure there were engineers that designed parts that were used on both Fords and Cadillacs, employees that assembled the cars, the miners that mined the iron ore to turn into the metal that made the parts, wives that stood behind those guys and the butcher who carved the pig so they could all eat bacon and go to work with a full stomach and a smile on their face, because as everyone knows-eating bacon makes you happy ... and lets not forget the chickens that laid the eggs that were on the plate next to the bacon, all of them probably deserve credit for helping make it happen and lets not forget the person who invented the wheel that made it all possible... they all probably deserve credit. However, the point of my comment was not to assign credit to one person or another or provide an in depth look into the history of Cadillac, but to simply point out the fun-fact that the Henry Ford Motor company which was Henry Ford's first auto company... ended up being Cadillac which I think is a pretty cool connection. I also think that connection is cool because if you look at the styling and mods made on many of these early customs you will see that the end result of the customizers efforts makes a ford or merc look more like a cadillac or other luxury car and in many instances they look better than a cadillac. Now lets see some more 1940’s period correct customs or maybe some additional original customs from the 1940's. I sure do love this thread!
What's it worth??????? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BARR...0238278?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item4d08ce95c6
Oh boy! So it's for sale now. Whatever the price will be, it's impossible to value such a fantastic original kustom.
Wow sure would be cool to own. I wonder if it will sell? With the prices historic customs seem to have been bringing over the last few years I wonder if the owner will be able to get what he thinks it is worth out of it. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
I see the listing has now ended...I wonder if someone made the seller an offer he couldn't refuse, or if he decided not to sell. Absolutely fantastic car!!
