If your talking about my avatar that was before the rat rod craze and I can't figure out how to change my avatar.
Why not paint it pink? Real men can drive pink cars. Do a white with a red pearl and it was look pink sometimes.
Also if you are doing a Kustom why hot rod rims?
    Isn't it a more door?
It's just got alot going on already just saying pick a style and go with it. Not mix styles.
Purple can be super cool as well as 4 doors.

"Manage Your Account" link at the top of the page, "Edit Avatar" under "Settings and Options." I don't care what color your car or wheels are, it's your car. I was just yanking your chain. I swear sometimes the HAMB reminds me of Planet Fitness: http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/wed-september-14-2011/the-plight-of-muscled-americans :D

Because I don't want a pink car. I guess you're going to have to explain your definition of street rod. And Kustom, while you're at it. I don't see this car as either one.

It is a Fordor. "A lot going on?" Seems relatively simple to me compared to a LOT of the cars I see here. I'm not picking a style - I'm doing what appeals to me, regardless of the pigeonhole someone might try to put it in. Isn't that what this is all about?

To be honest I have no clue what "Planet Fitness" is. But I do know the HAMB is suppose to be Traditional Hot Rods And Customs.
Thanks for telling me how to change my avatar it only took me 5 years.

    Any time.

Watch the video clip. It's a place where they tell you they're about one thing, but do pretty much the opposite.

So what's the definition of traditional hot rods and customs, vs street rods and kustoms? I'm serious, because it seems to be all over the map here. A shitbox, overchopped, undriveable rat rod is okay, but a mostly-stock, lightly hot-rodded car with wheels you disagree with is not?

Whatever bro. Frankly I don't give a shit whether you or anyone else likes my car or not, or whether it meets your definition of "traditional hot rods and customs." If you don't like it, feel free to skip on by any pics you might come across of it.

I like your ride just not with 20" billet DONK wheels. 50's cars pretty much all look better with wide white walls. A Shoebox is classy. Be it chopped, hot rodded, stock or whatever. Just not with crappy digital gauges, tweed interior, 80's paint jobs or fads. Traditional Kustom with a "K" look like they rolled out of the little pages and are timeless. See Victoria Secret ( http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=533063&highlight=victoria+secret )
There is a huge difference between that car and a rat rod. Elegance is the word that comes to my mind. Traditional Kustoms take the factory car and make it look better. Not over done not putting things that don't belong on a car but making the car look better than factory.
A fordor is a family car. Nothing wrong with that.

I agree with what you're saying. Those wheels aren't 20" billet DONK wheels. They're 15" Halibrand copies. http://www.ebay.com/itm/230745063038?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

I've read the Victoria Secret thread, the car is beautiful. I don't have anywhere near the skills to pull that off, so I'm doing what I can.

So you are building a 4 door Gasser?
There is a pretty cool green gasser sedan on here somewhere. Was in Traditional Rods and Kulture Magazine I think and a bunch others.

  20. We narrowed my son's 50 coupe with nova front-steer sub by 3 inches. Any more and there's no room for exhaust headers/manifolds. He uses a pair of block huggers on a smallblock chevy engine

No, not building a gasser. I like the style of these wheels, and think they'd look great on my car.

Just my opinion, but these wheels are more "street machine" style than hot rod or custom. They don't look anything like a Halibrand that I've seen. Nobody ran these types of wheels on Shoeboxes, and the closest you might come to that style would be some slotted aluminum wheels in a 70's style build.

Halibrand's were used on race cars because they were ultra-light and too expensive for a daily driver, which is what a four door would be. I think that's the reason for everyone's concern here, is that the styles just don't match at all, infact they're terribly contradictory.

If that's what you like then do it, but don't expect anyone else to "get it". Also expect a lot of feedback at the cruise nights like, "I like that car but those wheels ruin it."

The wheels won't really ruin it of course, but you're blending multiple styles that aren't pleasing to the eye. Maybe some slotted aluminum wheels would suit you better, and match the plum crazy color too.

Well said Daddio. Like I was saying pick a "era or style" and stick with it. If you want the 60's vibe do radirs or supremes. We aren't trying to tell you how to build your car. We are just saying some things people do to their car does make it not traditional and that's what this forum is about. It's why they don't let post 64 cars and trucks on it. We aren't a muscle car site or a street ride site. We are traditional Hot Rods and Kustoms. My Ford gets called a rat rod and a hot rod all the time. To me it's a mild Kustom. Non car people don't know what Kustoms are. I was asked if it was a Studebaker or a Tucker you name it. If it was a Tucker I would sell it in a second.
dadsblueford trust me I am not picking on you or trying to offend you in anyway. I do belive people on here have to much time on their hands and jump all over a person at timesfor no reason . It's like piranha. All I ment by those DONK rims, are they aren't ment for a 50's 4 door car. They were ment for a late 60's early 70's muscle car.
You could always do this haha

I get what you guys are saying, trust me. That said, there are a ton of things done to cars here on a VERY regular basis that are far from "traditional," yet nobody gets grief for them. Airbags with onboard compressor ring a bell? I've seen these wheels (or very similar) on numerous rods here on the HAMB. The possibility that "nobody ran these types of wheels on shoeboxes" makes it that much more appealing. I don't want my car to look like everyone else's. Lots of shoeboxes here do.

I found this excellent post on here not long ago: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1293908&postcount=1

    Most pertinent to this discussion:
    Sounds good to me.

I agree, the Halibrands dont really give your car the class it deserves.
Have someone mockup / photoshop smoothies, gennie's, rally's, steelies, cragars, supremes or hub caps paired with white walls or black walls. but nothing new school really goes on a shoebox to me.

it's like seeing your grandma in a bikini. it just doesnt work
