Frank . . yes an T-5 in a Mustang is World Class from 1985-on. However, WC means the design. It doesn't mean the torque capacity. A V8 and 4 cyl T5 use the same gears, yep the same. However, the input shaft is different, along with the corresponding counter gear cluster. This changes the gear ratios tremendously, whereas the ratios are not good for a torquey V8, but great for a small engine. However, this change is what is responsible for a 4 cyl T5 not have the torque rating that a V8 has. I have rebuild 4 cyl T5s into V8 versions be replacing the input and cluster, thats all there is to it. It increaces the torque rating ( stronger ) a lot.
here is my 2.3 / t-5 powerd sport coupester this things flys the car is so light and the gearing is so high i only need 3 gears 4th and 5th are over drive ..lol click here enjoy YouTube - round 2
Here is my 2.3 I run in my derby cars It's not done in this picture. Very simple engines tons of aftermarket parts and flat out tough engines. One day I hope to have a one built up to put in a driver.
Hey skiprip, We didn't get the pictures. Try posting it again. I'm sure everyone would like to see them. Have a great day!
Ford had an issue with high wear in valve train components linked to cold engine/oil flow and recommended a very low (5W20) rating oil for many engines, I get the Motorcraft oil at Wal-Mart.
Yup, my Merkur block has the adapter and cooler. My '71 Van with a 240 six also had the 90 degree adapter. Ed
hello , tried to follow all the posts on this 2/2.3 maybe imissed it ? but has anyone done the Volvo 16 valve head swop onto the Lima 2.3, seems some have done this onto your version of the old sierra.
madflow, checkout the link in my signature, I put up all the info about the Volvo head swap, while it may look cool, it's not really worth the effort (at least to me).
i need help one more time lol. im running a autometer speedo in my roadster with the 2.0 2.3 motor im also using the manual 5 speed t-5 ( i think ) i want to know how or who can i get the speedo cable from so i can use the speedo i have is there an adapter from the t-5 cable to the autometer gauge ? help what do i need to make this work thanks
I was wondering if someone has a contact for a company out in California that makes a Model A modified flywheel housing that mates a stock A transmission to a 2.0 engine. They also sold a front engine mount. I have a friend with this engine combination in their A and it works and sounds great. Thanks, Dan
Anyone have a suggestion for a N/A header? It's going in a Model A. I am not too keen on the stock headers from a Ranger or Aerostar. I might go with this one here except in the ceramic coated, unless someone has a better idea. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PSM-70-1064/
That header should do the job just nice. If you need more info on your engine see the link in my signature, all kinds of good information.
For Folvo Pyropete on ebay has a lot of parts, valves, studs, flanges. http://www.ebay.com/sch/pyropete125...h=item25701f5282&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 Also turboford is source for things like timing tensioner. http://forum.turboford.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=6 Also there is a 2300:16v yahoo forum. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/2300-16V/
I just bought a Edelbrock Pony Ram intake designed for two Holley R-6467 carbs. If anyone out there has a pair available, I'm in!
That's an old intake, hadn't seen one in a while. You could adapt a couple of 1bbls from a couple of 6 bangers if you can't find a couple of R-6467's.
I found out the R-6467's are based on the 1940's. So without any real info I'm not 100% my R-6467's have the correct parts inside (had 1940 gaskets installed). http://www.carburetor-blog.com/?page_id=236
Not really rod related, but a question on 2.3L transmissions. I'm putting a 2.3L turbo motor from a Merkur XR4Ti in my 1974 Jeep J-10, replacing a 4.2L (258) six. The turbo motor puts out more hp and a little more torque, but of course at a higher rpm. Still should be good -- its' a street truck, only light hauling. I have 4.10 gears and will adjust tire size to get the right cruising rpm. The Merkur is a five speed, but I really want a five speed 4x4 trans. Stopped making four cylinder Range 4x4s in 1996, so that trans is hard to find. Will a 3.0L trans fit? Will anything else fit?? I have found an adapter for a SBF trans.. may have to go that route. Yes, I could make it 2WD, but it's a Jeep. Even if I hardly ever used 4WD it should have it...
You will have better luck getting your answer here http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=14
That's what I was afraid of. No one on The Ranger Station seems to mess with or know anything about the 2.3L. Or there's no one who will answer. Had a post up there a couple days now, maybe I'll get something later. I have run across a $185 adaptor for a SBF trans. If I have no luck finding an 88-96 Ranger 4x4 tranny that might be the way I go. In the mean time, if someone has a 88-96 (preferred, but will consider earlier) Ranger 4x4 2.3L five speed and transfer case that isn't too far from central South Carolina let me know!! Might be worth having it shipped...
I put a 2.0 Pinto and 4 speed in a glass '29 Ford Roadster back around 1980. Installed a Crowler cam and header for a little more pep. Is Crowler still in business?
